Tutorial: Faux Spring Blossoms

i don't know what kind of weather you are dealing with, my friends,
but it's so hot here in SoCal that Mother Nature is reeeeeeeally confused...
the question seems to be 'to bloom or not to bloom'
because it's not quite clear whether it's late winter, early spring, or full-blown summer.
(Olaf the snowman would love it here right now!)
in other areas, some of you poor souls are dealing with BELOW ZERO temps!

for those of us who are looking for some evidence of spring, i have a trick to share:
forget nature. make your OWN spring blossoms!!!

continue reading for my easy tutorial...

i made some last year for our entry hall, and shared them on IG:

it's a super simple, quick project that makes use of materials that we ALL have:
the blooms are made from white tissue paper. or white paper napkins. or white toilet paper.
yes, seriously. any thin paper will do! actually, so would thin fabric.
(and of course you could make them pink or yellow)

materials:
scissors, tacky glue, branches, thin paper or fabric (tissue-paper consistency)

method:
* cut some tiny flower shapes out of whatever paper you decide to use ,
making them round in shape and about the size of a 50 cent piece.
(wait, does anyone know what that even is anymore??? )
* keep some whole and bunch them up by pinching the center, forming a 'stem' in the back.
* cut some in half and roll them into tinier 'buds' with a 'stem' on one end.
* glue them onto a twig - grab one from a dormant tree in your yard or roadside.
you'll want to place the smaller 'buds' toward the tip of the branch,
with the 'blossoms' gradually getting larger as you move down the branch, for a realistic look.

* when done, stand them up in a jar, vase, crate, or whatever container you have:

voila! springtime. no matter what Mother Nature is doing outside...

* for a super-realistic look,
cut a few teardrop-shaped single petals, squish the ends of them,
and drop them next to your vase:

  1. What a cute idea! I saw something similar last year and thought I would try it---but of course, never did. lol

I wish I had a little of your CA heat here. We are MINUS 7°F here this morning-with wind chill we are 20 something below zero. Awful-schools run late so that kids don't have to wait for buses. Crazy...and yet we are even crazier because we live here. lol

I hope you have a wonderful week, Deb. xo Diana

    1. oh darling, i did the freezing cold stuff for years when i lived in Idaho, Lake Tahoe, Lake Arrowhead, then Washington state... so i understand the appeal of living in beautiful places that get ccccccold. but NEVER did the temps get THAT low! (i've lost all of my 'cold weather credibility' since moving back to so cal six years ago and my kids laugh at me now) stoke the fire, and make some hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps to keep you warm, Miss Diana!
