When In Doubt, Paint It!

galvanized, paint treatments, krylon spray paint, hammered finish paint, painting, decor makeover, farmhouse, rustic, industrial, home decor, flower vase
when in doubt, paint it! that mantra has served me well for most of my life.
when something doesn't *quite* fit the plan or the design scheme,
paint sweeps in to save the day - and MONEY!
this project is a perfect example of how a quick change of color can make all the difference
between the dreaded 'keep or toss' decision.

continue reading to see how paint transformed and saved a leftover...
.
the story:
last fall when i opened the homewardFOUND shop space,
i included three brass wall vases, found at the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
that meant that i was able to price them LOW - so of course i thought they'd sell quickly.
one did, two didn't. don't ask, i can't explain that.

so i was left with two of them, and they were REALLY not my style.... or WERE they???
(sorry for the lousy 'before' shot - i didn't have a close up!)

the solution:
with a quick shot of one of my fave paints, they were exactly my rustic style!

[um... okay, full disclosure, it was NOT a 'quick shot'. painting was. but the prep wasn't.
i was cutting the knot off of the twine to remove it from the back, using heavy scissors. and hurrying.
THAT was when i cut the end of my finger, requiring five stitches and two weeks of non-use. ugh.
my advice: always go slow and pay attention when using sharp objects - even if it's a simple task!]

i had previously added small canvas 'tags' embellished with vintage paper, and they still work...

just look at that paint texture! it came outta' the can that way!

this is why Krylon Hammered Metal finish spray paint * in silver is one of the most-used paints in my arsenal:
perfect 'galvie' color and texture at literally the touch of a button.
i have a sneaky way to get an even more textured look from it, and will be sharing a tutorial on that soon!
this paint will self-level (if you don't spray it on too thick) and sticks to EVERYTHING:
glass, metal, wood, plastic, and probably fabric - tho i haven't tried that yet!!!

(pssst: here's another one of my secret paint weapons ;) )

those former 'not really my style' wall vases are hanging on the wall outside my office door,
now totally and unabashedly MY style!
