My last post showed you a sneak peek of the ornaments I've been busy creating...
this post will share three of the seven I've created, plus a look back at one created and used on the first wreath of this year. My next post will cover the last three ornaments.

One of the ornaments I am sharing today utilizes some existing ornaments already in my stash - I'm zhushing them up with additions cut from the vinyl placemats that I have chosen as my primary material in this year's holiday decor. One of those cut shapes forms the second ornament, and an expanded version is used for the third ornament.

Ready for some easy tutorials? Let's go!...

Just a reminder that my primary material for this holiday series is a vinyl placemat with a green 'leaf' print, found at Dollar Tree. (find it here - not an ad)

Using a small, sharp pair of scissors, I carefully cut out various shapes from the placemat... the pattern offers several possible motifs to use:

For three ornaments, I'm using the four-leaf clusters seen on the right aboveI also cut out full circles (the four-leaf clusters are inside the circles, as shown in the center of the image), and am using them for one of the ornaments.

Embellished Satin Ball Ornament

Materials:

vinyl cutouts of four-leaf clusters - one per ornament.
white satin ball ornaments - I simply pin the vinyl cutout to them.
paper clips bent into an 'S' shape . sharp scissors

hot glue - If you choose to use resin or glass round balls instead, you can forego the pins and use hot glue to secure the vinyl cutout to the ornament.

Method:

1. + 2. Cut a small slit into the leaf cluster right at the center - using the curved lines printed on the vinyl helps as a guide. You want to cut all the way into the center, so the next step works.

3. Slide the cut slit under the ornament hanging loop - you want the four leaves to be centered at the hanging loop.

4. Place a straight pin at the tip of a leaf, then push the pin into the satin ball (or hot glue it to the ornament you've selected). Continue with the same method on the other three leaves.

5. You now have a round ball ornament with a 'flower' on top, a great way to update old ornaments.

Vinyl Leaf 'Cross' Ornament:

Method:

1. Flip the vinyl cutouts over, with the white back side facing up.

2. Place a drop of hot glue onto the top end of one 'leaf'.

3. Immediately place a paper clip that has been opened into an 'S' shape in the glue, with the larger part of the clip extending above the leaf (unglued) as shown.

4. Hang the leaf crosses with the paper clip loop on tree branches, or from ribbons on a wreath.

Materials:

round vinyl cutouts
 - one per ornament
small triangular pieces of the placemat (it's one corner of the 'star' shape seen in the center of the circles.) - one per ornament
hot glue . paper clips bent into an 'S' shape - one per ornament

Method:

1. One round shape and one small 'point' from the star shapes is needed for each ornament.

2. This shows how the small 'point' piece will look once glued BEHIND the round shape. (You'll want to take care to glue the point in the same location on each ornament, so they don't look crooked when hanging.)

3. A drop of hot glue at the edge of the round shape is all it takes to attach the point.

4. Add another drop of hot glue to the back of the ornament, over the seam of the round shape and the point. Immediately place a paper clip opened into an 'S' shape into the glue.

From the front, the point turns into the ornament 'cap'.

One last ornament to share - you saw it on the wreath I shared in the first post of this series. It's a 3-D 'flower' made with the four-leaf clusters used above.

3-D 'Flower' Ornaments:

Materials:

leaf clusters cut from vinyl placemat - two for each flower
scissors . 6 tiny white pompoms . straight pins - or hot glue, if you wish

Method:
mid century modern style,mid-century modern inspired,Christmas,Christmas Decor,Christmas Decor Themes,Christmas tree,ornaments,DIY,diy decorating,re-purposed,holiday,home decor,tutorial,diy ornaments, Mid-Mod Holiday.

1.Gather two leaf clusters, a tiny pom pom, and a straight pin.

2
. Push a straight pin into the pom pom until the head of the pin is resting on the top.

3
. Take one leaf cluster and bend each leaf inward at it's base, angling toward the center. This gives the flowers a more dimensional look in the end.

4. Push the pin and pom pom into the center of the bent leaf cluster - the leaves will angle up around the pom.

5
. Push the pin into the center of the second leaf cluster - which isn't bent, it's still flat. Push until the leaf clusters are right up against each other and the bottom of the pom.

If you are using hot glue to create the flowers, it will be easier to reverse the assembly order: put a drop of hot glue onto the flat leaf cluster, and center the bent leaf cluster on top of it. Then add another drop of hot glue to the center of the bent leaf cluster, and place the pom pom on it.

On the wreath, I pushed the pin in the center of the flower into the foam.

To use an as ornament, hot glue an opened paper clip to the end of one leaf 'petal' on the back side as a hanger.

Three more ornament tutorials are coming up later this week!
