The Lollipop Guild

every year, the sweet-faced girl shown below

chooses an equally sweet theme for her 'Farm Chicks' antique show.
in 2011, she chose a candy theme - and i loved the graphic so much

that it was my inspiration for the little gift i made her
[just to say thank you for having me as a vendor]

i found some red and white cording at the fabric store, and used it to make two little lollipop pins.

i cut some words out of vintage sheet music and added them to the pins

['serena' was actually 'serenade' on the sheet music]

then i nestled them in a tiny box and embellished it with vintage trims.

this craft is so very simple, and makes a perfect accent on a gift tag, place card, 

or greeting card. here's how it looks on a manilla gift tag:

 and here's the easy 1-2-3-4 to make your own:

i used cotton baker's twine for the tags. a drop or two of glue is all it takes!

make 'em small for tags and larger for pins, like the ones i made for serena.
just cut out a circle as the backing for a pin, instead of using the whole tag.

Welcome to Day 13!

as expected, the event i attended yesterday in the San Diego, California area

was OVER THE TOP INSPIRING!

the building has been transformed from an old printing company warehouse to a vintage mecca,

the perfect location for vintage markets, craft classes, photo shoots, and event prop rentals.

here are just a few of my photos of the amazing sets, decor, and props:

the next event will be held February 22-24 and even more details will be in place then:

the interior is being built out to resemble a charming country hamlet!

the marketplace hosts @ 20 vendors of vintage and re-purposed furnishings, decor, and apparel.

i could LIVE there. seriously!

Warm Winter Decor

 today i am simply sharing these images of one my past homes
[known as 'the Cottage']

showing some easy ways to warm up your winter rooms using color and texture

the decor in these images show how the room was decorated

immediately following the holiday decor scheme seen in this post

 you'll see some of those holiday elements re-used in a new way

 to lighten up the rooms and make them warm and inviting, 

while remaining spacious and uncluttered.

it's a great way to start off the year!

simple elements and color add comfort and warmth

that wrap around you like a cashmere sweater

the mantel's arrangement of branches brings nature into the composition

and a collection of quirky letter K's adds interest without clutter
i collect letters from everywhere, and i also make them myself:

*a K cookie cutter, painted black
*a clear glass cylinder vase with a cursive k painted on with a paint pen
*a carpenter's ruler forms a K
*a cursive k cut from a piece of vintage sheet music
*a chipboard K covered with white glitter

a quick-change of the lampshades on the chandelier and the addition of clear crystals to bounce light

branches, pine cones, and bird nests bring the feeling of the winter woods indoors

if you aren't into neutrals

[and that's perfectly fine!]

it would be easy to replace the dark brown and tan colors in this room 

with bright or pastel hues - and you'd have a completely different look!

Winter Decorating: Glass Lamp Globe 'Snowballs'!

back in a post last fall, i shared a tutorial for my original Glass Globe Pumpkins with you
[thank you for making that post my all-time #1 post, by the way!]

but i use those glass light globes in different ways all year long!

here's what i do with them in the winter:

* take the simple clear glass ones, 

and make them into snowglobes...

* find small figurines at thrift shops or the dollar store
* spray paint them gloss white

* hot glue them inside a shallow white bowl or pedestal

[i like using hot glue  - 
because if i want to change it all later, i can!]
 

*flip the globe upside down with the opening facing up - 
then add some snow flakes or glitter inside.
* then put a bead of hot glue all along the rim of the globe, 
and place the base upside down onto the glass globe's opening.
* trim the edge of the base with vintage trims, ribbon, jewelry if you like.

 * in the globe shown below, i also glued a clear plastic snowflake behind the little angel figure.

You can use glass fishbowls, too!

 ________________________

* nestle them into arrangements of greens and cones,

in urns and buckets and boxes...

put night lights on an extension cord inside them so they'll glow!

You can use a strand of mini-lights for outdoor use, as well...

* another easy way to use these is just to fill up a beautiful urn, bowl, wire basket, or other container.

the sunshine pouring in the windows is enough to light them up

and show off the beautiful patterns in the glass...

my wire urn below was one of my favorite display pieces for these!

 they work inside and out -
try heaping them into a wheelbarrow in the garden, 

and lit them with mini-lights!

... and no, that's NOT all!
i'll have more ideas for these when SPRING comes!

 just a few last images of White Christmas decor to send us off to dreamland tonight!
