a warm welcome
color offers warmth and a happy welcome this utilitarian area.
by incorporating a few soft touches, some interesting textures and elements,
and ways to tackle the detritus that often gathers here in this 'drop zone',
it's gone from a pass-thru area to one we notice and enjoy a bit more.
as usual, i didn't spend a cent to restyle this area -
i shopped the house and pulled a new look together for nuthin'!

painting the globe...
Ultimate Gray.
(since most of my recent projects have been all contained Illuminating Yellow,
i thought it was time to give the second color some attention!)
i finally came up with a way to restyle an item that i've had tucked away for years...
it was a banged-up, scratched, faded (but not in a good way) paper world globe,
and using gray and white paint to transform it was the perfect solution to update the look.
note: this is a globe from the 1990's. not vintage or antique. not valuable.
now it fits into my decor, and is a sweet reminder of special people each time i look at it.
isn't that better than keeping something stashed in a closet
because although it means something to you, you don't know where to PUT it?

'house of love' salvaged sign
[if you're not old like me, you may not remember that song from the 90's,
recorded by friends (who later married) Amy Grant and Vince Gill.
it's an earworm, so if you want to hear it, there's a link after the post!]
this project is a re-use of something i first created last January -
i've just changed it a bit and added to it. i love re-making old projects!

optimistic outlook in my office
at the beginning of a new year, color can energize us and our work spaces.
to help organize and cheer up my work space.
by curating not just the color palette but the amount of items in each area,
my office functions better. i have what i need every day at hand.
items i use less are stored in easily accessible areas, and don't overwhelm the space.
and honestly? this happy sunny yellow color affects my mood. (most days).
so if simply bringing in a new color to my space can do all that, i'm all for it!

boho lace pumpkins
i am always trying to find new ways to create pumpkin decor to enjoy in the fall...
i'm game to try anything to see if it will work.
i recently came across some photos of this past project, never shared here on the blog,
and thought i had better do that before the window of opportunity for fall decor closes!
these are a fun way to create pumpkins with a bohemian style vibe,
perfect in combination with the neutral hues, macrame' accents, and wood textures
in the 'of the moment' boho modern fall decorating.

frosted fall leaves tutorial
i saw something the other day that caused that poetic line to spring to my mind:
isn't it pretty? i love the 'fall-into-winter' feel of the leaves shown here.
this image on writer Ann Voskamp's website inspired me to create
my own 'frosted fall leaves' for a simple Thanksgiving tablescape...
it's a really easy project, and it turned out perfectly.

a found & foraged flag
just as much as the next patriotic American... but...
well... i found a way to do exactly that, and still have a focus on the flag for the Fourth of July!
from when i closed the homewardFOUND shop last March.
and the blue-ish zinc metal scraps, i saw a flag.

Into the Pale : A Neutral Palette
"Once the tree and the holiday decor comes down, it looks so EMPTY!"
Well, maybe I'm weird, but I kinda' LIKE the cleared-out spaces!
To me, this is the perfect time of year to do a nice, thorough cleaning
and a refresh of our rooms so that we start the new year with a 'clean palette'.
I took that idea to the nth degree this year
and pulled all of the orange accent color OUT of the house.
I packed it up and put it away, leaving only the neutral background -
and the result is a soft, cozy, warm, 'cashmere' feeling in the house!
It's perfect for winter, and a nice visual rest from all of the holiday excess.
and the best part? it wasn't even hard to do...

creating a warm welcome
it looks perfect in your head - but it doesn't exist yet.
oh how i LOVE that!
case in point: an 'old'-looking sign that said JOY.
the FINAL touch to give it a 'vintage feel' was to paint in some circles of glue,
a Sweet Sweater Snowman TM, Burlap & Sweet Sweater Santa Hats TM,

(LOL... NOT! it's never that cold here)

beachy summer color palette
The combinations of color that appear in every natural setting on Earth are flawless...
So when people ask me 'How do you know what colors go together?'
I tell them to go outside.
Literally! Because it's outside, in nature, every season, that you'll find the 'perfect' color...
It contains a perfect summer color scheme:
The palette of varied blues, grays, tans, browns, and whites
Here's one way to create rooms around that palette:
The palette of varied blues, grays, tans, browns, and whites?
It's there in all of the details, materials, and surfaces.
We've changed the proportion of color use from the beach photos -
instead of blue being the primary color, neutral tans secondary, and white accents,
We have white as the overwhelming primary color here, with neutral tans secondary,
then touches of blue as an accent.
That helps the small spaces flow into one another and feel larger.
In a home with larger rooms and more space, blue could be used on some walls and furnishings.
Even the simplest accent - like an old door turned into a bulletin board - plays on that palette.
The decor is simple, fresh, and brings the feeling of summer days at the beach indoors.
A photo of a place you love to spend time is a PERFECT starting point for your decor!
If you love to go there on vacation, why not decorate your home to reflect that place,
