Spring Inspiration for March 🌱

D is for Daffodil. And Delight. And Deb!
This month, in honor of my birthday, I'm sharing some of my favorite things about Spring with you...

I've included a
lot of references to flowers to get you into a springtime mood. I'll be picking up some bunches of daffodils and a basil plant at Trader Joe's, as well as wandering through some plant nurseries and garden centers, selecting annual herbs for our garden.

There's also some beautiful music, a few inspiring quotes, a candle that I can smell even when it's not burning, a sip of something delicious, places I love visiting in springtime, and of course a few decorating ideas and tutorials to help you bring spring inside your home right now...

decor:

'Decorating by the Book' doesn't mean what you think it does! Check out this post for simple ways to work books and touches of gardening & flowers into your spring home decor.

tunes:

Vivaldi 'Four Seasons: Spring' concerto on YouTube
This is my absolute favorite piece of classical music! I've seen it performed live by an orchestra, and listened to it as I wandered in fields of daffodils in Washington state on my birthday. It never fails to lift my spirits.

scent:
'orange blossom absolute' candle by French parfumier Panier des Sens. This scent contains extract of real orange blossoms - my favorite fragrance! (Followed closely by the earthy scent of daffodils, and petrichor - the smell of rain on dry ground) I bought mine at the Huntington Gardens on my birthday last spring, and it is so strong that I can smell it without lighting a flame! Visit their website here

sips:
Add a drop or two of 100% orange essential oil into your favorite warm beverage... I found this decadent elixir at a local winery, Europa Village, and have stirred it into my coffee, tea, and hot chocolate ever since. (Sadly they don't sell it online, but I found a similar one at Walmart here )

I adore this daffodil print china tea set... I found it on my birthday many years ago, at an antique shop in Freeland,  Washington on Whidbey Island.

I even decorated with it here

visits:
I love walking through beautiful gardens, nurseries, and flower fields - especially in springtime. My absolute favorites are Huntington Gardens in San Marino, CA (info here) and the Skagit Valley daffodil fields in Washington State, pictured above - see more of my photos in this post

quote:
This is a message I really need to remember right now...

poem:
My favorite poem for March is by William Wordsworth, an English writer and poet who celebrated our relationship with nature and the importance of taking time to appreciate the wonder and beauty of the natural world. He described a field of daffodils so beautifully in his poem 'I Wandered, Lonely as a Cloud'  (first published in 1807, the expanded version in 1815) that it is considered the most famous poem written in all history... read the full version here . (Given my adoration of daffodils, what other poem would I choose for this month?!)

"I wandered, lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."

~ William Wordsworth

blessing:
May the beauty of spring bloom in your hearts, your minds, and all around you this month, friends...
