another of my previous diy decor projects got a quick makeover with paint,
turning it into a cute door hanger that resembles an ornament for the holidays!

i love re-using what i already have on hand,
giving it a fresh look for each season when i can.
it saves money, and storage space, and time spent shopping -
honestly, i'd rather be painting and crafting!!!

i took the old item (do you remember what it was?!) and gave it a thick white base coat.

some old washi tape marked off spaces between color stripes.
(why washi? it was thinner than any other tape i had in my supplies,
including the white electrical tape used to make the top edge of the stripes)

i painted a rainbow of stripes with craft paint, and the paint brush handle yellow.
when i removed the washi tape after the paint dried, THIS happened:

and i must confess... i kinda' like the way the washi tape has color on the edges now.
so i saved it. and turned it into something to use in another project!

two versions (out of endless possibilities!) for lettering a message on the door hanger...
for these images, i used my graphics program to insert them.
if you're not into hand lettering, it would be easy to use a Crikut or stick-on letters
to spell out whatever you wish your message to be.

a white ribbon through the hole in the paintbrush handle
suspends the 'ornament' from a regular 'slip over the top of the door' wreath hanger.

top tip: paint a cheap wreath hanger to match your door!
use the same paint used on your door - if your door is wood,
paint the hanger a similar base color then streak some wood stain over it.
the wreath hanger will effectively 'disappear'
and your wreaths will be the star of the show!

a few sprigs of white tree foliage and some hand painted ribbon finish it off with a flourish.
(more on that ribbon coming soon...)
it's a colorful welcoming touch that didn't cost me anything this time around.

so.... have you remembered what this looked like before it got a Christmas makeover?

first, it was a $1 plastic charger from Dollar Tree.
then it was painted as a 'palette' pumpkin for fall.
and now, it's an ornament for Christmas!

all done for pennies - with paint. my favorite decorating tool!
(gee, i wonder what it will be next?!!)
