surprise!
this project and post wasn't planned -
i was recently inspired by a cute creation on Insta, and had to try it for myself.
it worked so well that i wanted to share it here...
so i'm popping it into my late fall content before i switch to holiday!

continue reading to see what inspired me and how EASY this project is!

my inspiration came from the creative team over at @ohhappydaypartyshop on Instagram.
they come up with really fun ideas for using party decor elements in new ways -
and you know i love that philosophy!

they shared a reel showing some happy little mushrooms
made from paper cups and small honeycomb paper balls,
and the minute i saw them i knew i wanted to try it.

i only have one honeycomb paper ball, and it's HUGE.
so i grabbed one of my large milk glass vases (it stands about 10" tall), flipped it upside down,
and sat the honeycomb paper ball on top - opened up so it was just a half circle.

strands of white pompoms easily wrapped around the vase + the edge of the paper
to create the look of the spores on the gills and the ring of a mushroom.
(i didn't even glue them, i just wrapped and then looped one pom around another to hold it)

on top, i used large white pom poms to represent the spores on the mushroom cap.
(they used paper circles on theirs, and felt circles would work, too)
because the holes in my giant paper ball are big, i stuck a cotton ball down inside them
and then sat the pom poms on top of the cotton to lift them up higher.
(without that, the pom poms just sank into the holes)

i finished it off with some fringed 'eyelash' yarn in mossy green
and a few yellow leaves cut from ribbon,
for a fall vibe on the credenza in my studio.
and though it won't be there long, i'm enjoying it while it is!!
