a decade ago, i created pumpkins using glass lamp globes.
i searched the innerwebs and found that nothing like them existed then,
so they are the 'originals' as far as i can tell...
i've made a few more of them over the last ten years,
and many other people have made their own versions, too!
last month when i stumbled upon four matching white glass lamp globes at ReStore,
i decided to re-visit this project...
then paid a crazy-cheap price of just 2.00 each and brought them home.
as i looked around my studio for various objects to become stems,
i also found a few more elements that became 'toppers' for a chic finishing touch.
all in all, i came up with five different styles of pumpkins - using the same glass globes!
the globes themselves just had 'pumpkin' written all over them - those RIDGES!
i mean, how could i not make more?!!!
the first one i made has a very 'of the moment' boho chic vibe:
yep, you've seen that piece of lace used in a few projects lately!
to turn it into a pumpkin stem,
i rolled it up, folded it in half, and simply tucked it into the neck of the globe.
the scalloped edging looks for all the world like leaves, so it was a perfect choice!
i made a few 'farmhouse' style pumpkins, as well:
do you know what that is? it's a ceramic electric fence part!
[found at farm supply stores, these attach to the fencepost
and the electrified wire fence line runs thru the hole, so it won't touch the wood.]
they were the perfect hue and size to just PLOP into the neck of two globes,
and voila! stems!
i'm calling these two creations 'shabby chic':
a sparkling glass salt shaker and perfume bottle slipped perfectly into the necks,
turning into elegant stems on these pumpkins.
adding a pretty ribbon would be a lovely feminine finishing touch!
another 'vintage'-style element was the perfect topper on these two:
two vintage pressed glass vases in the shape of top hats fit SO well on the necks,
they seem to have been made for this!
(i just can't help but hum 'puttin' on the ritz' when i look at them!)
one more element became the perfect topper on what i'm calling
a 'Princess Pumpkin':
this tiny wire crown, one of my past 'Junk Queen Crown' original creations,
sits regally on the top of a glass globe pumpkin.
and when you add a small votive candle inside, she just GLOWS!
* NOTE: only use real candles inside globes that have an open top! *
if you want to light up globe pumpkins that have a stem,
only use a battery operated candle inside.
i hope these ideas inspire you to look at things differently,
and get creative with your fall decor this year!
