these stylish pumpkins are a combination of TWO of my past projects:
i've adorned my faux terra cotta painted pumpkins with lace,
one of them exactly as i did when i made my crochet & lace pumpkins.

this project actually started out as a completely different idea:
i was going to PAINT white mehndi-inspired lace motifs on my faux terra cotta pumpkins.
then the heat index went haywire, deb got headaches, and it just didn't happen.
the idea to use real lace on them came to me one night - and i love the result!
it's a REALLY easy way to embellish pumpkins for a look that's trending right now.

i created six different looks for my pumpkins,
using cotton crochet lace doilies, a tablecloth, and some cotton thread tassels.
let's look closer at the details, and i'll share how i made each one:
i created six different looks for my pumpkins,
using cotton crochet lace doilies, a tablecloth, and some cotton thread tassels.
let's look closer at the details, and i'll share how i made each one:
on the left, a piece of cotton crochet lace cut from a tablecloth
simply slides over the stem and sits on top of the pumpkin.
on the right, a pair of tassels connected by a cord are turned into a flower,
with the corded part inserted into the hollow styrofoam pumpkin to form a 'stem'.
on the left, the pumpkin was completely covered with a large piece of the crocheted cotton tablecloth.
a rubber band around the ends of the fabric on the lower backside of the pumpkin holds it all in place.

the stem to peeks through an existing hole in the lace.
on the right, another hollow styrofoam pumpkin gets a tasseled adornment -
this time, i simply wrapped the cord around a large champagne cork
then inserted it into the pumpkin as a 'stem'.
[these Dollar Tree pumpkins come with their own nubby styrofoam stems.
i just don't like them, so i pull them off - they're held on with a toothpick! -
then replace them with other things.]

this styrofoam pumpkin has had two looks - i only included this one in my arrangement.
i took a rectangular crocheted cotton doily with scallops on one end,
rolled it up into a column with the leaves on the outside edge,
then inserted it into the hollow pumpkin.
here's a peek at the other way that i embellished this pumpkin:

here's a peek at the other way that i embellished this pumpkin:
a small crocheted cotton lace doily 'topper' was secured to the pumpkin
by simply placing it between the pumpkin and the champagne cork 'stem',
then pushing the cork into the pumpkin.
it looked too similar to the larger lace-topped pumpkin, so i changed it.
that's the fun thing about crafting and decorating - anything can be changed!
[speaking of which... these pumpkins are about to get a paint treatment
and will appear soon with a completely different look! stay tuned!]
