well, here we are in August already...
a month that i always think of as 'summer's golden hour'.
and fall is just around the corner.
i LOVE summertime and am always sad to see the season go,
and usually i keep creating + sharing 'summer' content this month...
but i know everyone out there is ready for fall and all that comes with it.
and that means PUMPKINS!!!!

have you heard the voice clip on Instagram that goes
"Do *I* like pumpkins??? Yeah. Yeah, I like pumpkins!!!!"

not only does it describe me, but the voice actually SOUNDS like me!
(it isn't me, but it's a bit eerie hearing it all over social media every fall!)
so yeah, i like pumpkins. i've collected them all of my life,
and i REALLY i like making pumpkins
out of just about any element + material i can find...

from painted tin cans to silvery trays, rusty metal junk, and copper kitchen scrubbies
to sweaters and yarn and lace and macrame' and even balloons,
from faux painted concrete, terra cotta, kintsugi, and Pyrex + china patterns,
to ping pong paddles, plant pots, wire waste baskets, picture frames, books, and paper,
i've made DOZENS of pumpkins over the past three decades...
and i'm sharing a link to ALLLLL of them!

i hope these projects inspire you to try a few new DIY pumpkin projects this fall!

faux 'kintsugi' pumpkins

i am always amazed by how my creative muses get my attention!
after bumping a vase and having it crash to the floor (ending up in tiny pieces),
an ancient art form came to my mind.

the 15th-Century practice of kintsugi, meaning ' to join with gold ',
is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by re-joining broken parts
with lacquer that has been mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
the result is an elegant art form,
making the vessel stronger and more valuable than it was before breaking.

here at homewardFOUND, re-purposing and upcycling old, used, cast-off items
is my way of embracing the same philosophy - and applying it to home decor.
giving things a second chance, a new purpose, is not only budget-friendly and 'green',
but immensely satisfying from a creative standpoint.

i've applied the kintsugi aesthetic to these pumpkins for fall decorating,
and i love the way an age-old art can look so fresh and contemporary!

a decade ago, i created pumpkins using glass lamp globes.
i searched the innerwebs and found that nothing like them existed then,
so they are the 'originals' as far as i can tell...
i've made a few more of them over the last ten years,
and many other people have made their own versions, too!

last month when i stumbled upon four matching white glass lamp globes at ReStore,
i decided to re-visit this project...
then paid a crazy-cheap price of just 2.00 each and brought them home.

as i looked around my studio for  various objects to become stems,
i also found a few more elements that became 'toppers' for a chic finishing touch.
all in all, i came up with five different styles of pumpkins - using the same glass globes!

years ago - seven, to be exact - i made this original creation shown above.
i call them 'glass globe pumpkins' because they are made from vintage glass light globes.
(the kind that hang on the ceilings of hallways & kitchens in old houses)

more recently, i found some unique vintage glass lamp globes* and turned them into pumpkins -
with a twist. i did something on these that i didn't do on the originals...

Upcycled glass lamp globe Snowmen!

OhMyGoodness could you just DIE????!!!
I LOVE these little guys!

I was working this week on my NEW Sweet Sweater Snowmen,
and in the process, I unearthed two vintage glass lamp globes in a closet.

Now, y'all KNOW that I have a 'thing' for using these in my decor...
for my Original glass lamp globe Pumpkins
and my winter glass lamp globe Snowballs

Right now, I have cute containers for the snowmen sitting everywhere
and so my mind made the connection in an instant:
glass lamp globe snowmen!

I sat the globes on two of the containers
and they could not fit more perfectly!
After a bit of embellishment with vintage buttons
and some leftover bits of sweaters, they turned out like this:

I used the lid from the container as a hat - to me, it looks rather like a beret.
That and the jaunty scarf just make me want to give this lil' guy a French name...
How about 'Noel' ?

And his friend? Maybe she looks a leetle like a French clown, or Pierrot,
and clowns make us laugh, and that's happy and joyful -
so let's call her 'Joy'. As in, 'Joyeux'.

Joyeux et Noel. Yep, that works!

Love, Love, LOVE them - and I already have ideas for more!

If you'd like to make your own versions of my new original design,

remember that regular smooth glass globes are available at hardware stores.

UPDATE:
Take a peek at how I FOOFED one of these up for VALENTINE'S Day!
I present 'Valentina' the glass globe snowman,
Cup O' LOVE snowmen, and SWEETheart Snowmen!
