D is for daffodil, daisy, and dandelion!
(and a bunch more, like delphinium and dahlia and daphne)

continuing with the May Month of Flowers art challenge,
i've shared those three on Instagram on May 4 / day 4 / letter D -
and thought i'd share them here, as well!
several are older projects, and a few are brand new - created just for this challenge.

continue reading to see them all and learn how i made them...

yes, Daffodils are my favorite flower!
(it was the happy dancing Daffy O'Dill in Disney's animated 'Alice in Wonderland'
that had me besotted as a little Debby)

the two paper daffs up above are projects i've shared here on the blog before
and i've linked them below this post if you'd like to see more about how i made them.

the version shown below is a new one,
made for this challenge from vintage crepe paper and wire.

i used three colors of crepe paper - dark yellow, light yellow, and ivory.

the light yellow crepe paper was cut into three petal 'sets' -
basically double-ended petals shaped like 8's (or infinity symbols)
which were threaded onto the wire in the centers.

the ivory crepe paper was cut into two 'sets' of leaf shapes,
then slipped onto the wire behind the yellow petals
to create the 'spathe' - the papery part that appears just before the bloom.
i pinched the base of them tightly to make them stay on the wire.

i created a small 'cup' from a circle of the dark yellow crepe paper
as the central trumpet (also called the corona or crown)
and hot glued it to the top set of petals.

the smaller bud has no trumpet, just the petals and spathe,
folded up instead of spread out.

their diminutive size fits these tiny antique perfume bottles perfectly!

since i couldn't choose just one flower that starts with D...

i also included my mixed media collaged Daisy,
made from a store receipt (even the bar code makes an appearance on the leaf!)
which i cut into shapes, then glued onto the new yellow notebook cover.
then i embellished it with felt pen, paint pen, and colored pencil details.

the phrase 'bloom where you are planted' is my theme for this year in my life,
so this flower art challenge came at exactly the right time!

...and finally, the Dandelions.

these were simply crafted from a length of vintage crepe paper
folded lengthwise, with a fringe cut into the unfolded edge
then rolled up into a fluffy 'tassel'.

my original plan was to make a bunch of them and string them onto twine
to make a flower necklace... but i ran outta' time!
so i just photographed them on grass and called it good.

their sunny presence and determination to bloom wherever they can
remind me to not let circumstances or resources limit my creativity.

what have YOU created lately?!
