gathering at the table is a big part of holiday celebrations.
whether you are planning family sit-down dinners
or friends-filled buffets this holiday season,
being with people you love is a great time to set a pretty table.
and while i set up a tablescape for these photos,
including using all of my trees for a mini tree farm centerpiece,
this post is really about a fun, easy idea for your silverware!
get some mini stockings in your preferred color
then tuck a napkin and silverware into each one.
tie an ornament onto each stocking by running ribbon
through the ornament top and the hanging loop on the stocking.
put one at each place setting on your table
OR
fill a tray with loads of them for your buffet table
(i recommend using unbreakable ornaments for that!)
this is SUCH an easy way to set a table
or to carry your flatware from the buffet table!
and it makes people smile ;)
for an EXTRA touch for a dining table setting,
use a paint pen or stickers to add names to each ornament.
it's a nice touch that makes every guest feel welcome,
and only takes a moment to complete.
kids really like this one - but use unbreakable ornies for them!
yes, my Christmas china DOES fit this year's theme perfectly!

dishes that became a family tradition in the late 80's.
my Mom gave me my first set of eight place settings,
and over the years i added to it as our family grew
through added friends and marriage and babies!

i love the pretty scalloped edge and the sweet tree pattern...
and i miss having a table full of these dishes, our fave foods,
and all of my 'kids' and grandkids gathered together.
i treasure those memories.
my middle daughter just bought herself a set of these,
because she missed seeing them at Christmas.
one year, my eldest daughter and her hubby came here for Christmas,
and i had set the table to fit our 'Happy HULAdays' tiki theme...
she loved the tiki theme, but looked at the table and said
"UM.... WHERE is the Christmas china?????"
so i pulled it out of the cupboard and re-set the table!
family traditions are important - even if it's 'just' dishes.
i love that some of the things that i did as special touches
have become so important to my family.
do you have special china you use for the holidays?
