terra cotta Christmas: a simply natural table

i'm gonna' be honest, i got stuck on this one.
just how do you incorporate terra cotta pots into a tablescape?

keep it simple.

as always, i used what i had on hand,
combined some varied colors and textures and elements,
and didn't try to do anything that YOU can't do in your home, too.

my white ceramic dishes mix with anything and everything, i kid you not!
i've had them for over thirty years and they never let me down...

here, i stacked them with a medium sized terra cotta flower pot saucer - 
and i could have added a larger saucer beneath the dinner plate 
OR painted a plastic charger with my faux terra cotta paint treatment
to go under the dinner plate. 

caveat: ALWAYS use NEW terra cotta saucers for this. 
you don't want any trace of potting soil or dirt near your dining table!

the centerpiece is a simple pine wreath,
embellished with lights and a few painted terra cotta ornaments
and a large pillar candle in the center nestled into a terra cotta wine chiller!

green fabric napkins serve as placemats,
while others roll up into a shiny gold napkin ring
that picks up on the gold flatware.

each place setting gets a copper-toned ornament,
nestled into a small terra cotta pot...
placed on the bread plate or beside the glasses,
 it's a nice take-home treat for guests.
and if you personalize them, they also serve as place cards!

more uses for terra cotta pot saucers at the table
include as a coaster for the wine bottle
AND as 'hot pads' for hot dishes brought to the table.

one last bit of inspo for your holiday table:

one year while shooting photos for a magazine article, 
i stuffed a tiny burlap stocking with vintage silver flatware...
it's not only a fun and festive addition to a place setting,
but works perfectly to hold flatware for a buffet!
even a mini stocking made of paper - sheet music or old Christmas cards - works.
