these fancy 'county fair'-style ribbons appeared in my last post,
as accents on the 'Dime Toss' game sign and the end of the game table.

they were pretty easy to create  - and are MUCH larger than anything i could find
in stores or online. plus, they had to be yellow!
so in typical Deb fashion, i made my own
using the fabric, ribbons, and other detritus stashed in my creative studio.

do you have plans for games at a Fourth of July or summer birthday party?
these could be the perfect decor accents -
or use them as actual prize ribbons!

continue reading to see my easy tutorial...

here's how the ribbons looked on the sign for the game booth i created:

the basis of the award ribbons are 3 inch large size buttons
(these are a few of many that i have left from our family's 2014 reunion weekend)...
their size allows for gluing on ruffled ribbons without the center being completely covered.

also needed: a scrap of fabric, a length of flat ribbon, and two sizes of ruffled ribbons.

it's really a three-part process:

part one:
cut a circle of fabric that will wrap all around the button,
and glue it to the back side.

part two:
take an @ 8" length of wide wire-edged ribbon and ruffle it
by pulling the wire on only one side of the ribbon -
it will easily gather up and cause the ribbon to 'ruffle'.
cut that exposed wire, leaving 1/4" that you will fold back to hold it in place.

hot glue the large ruffled ribbon on the back side of the button,
right over the edge of the fabric that is already there.

take an @ 8" length of flat wide ribbon and fold it in half.
glue the top edge of the fold to the back of the button, below the pin part.
cut the ends of the ribbon diagonally or in an inverted V.

part three:
gather an @ 8" length of pre-gathered medium-width ribbon
(or use wire-edged ribbon and repeat the process for gathering as on the wide ribbon)
carefully hot glue the gathered edge of the ribbon to the fabric-covered front of the button,
as close to the outer edge as you can.

the final product is a bit like a sandwich...

the fabric-covered button is between the two layers of gathered ribbon.

whether or not you choose to use them as actual award ribbons,
they look darling in summertime decor vignettes!
