SPRING: flower-filled purse door hanger

March is here and spring is coming!
I'm always so glad to see the earth awaken after her winter nap, and love to use flowers and other garden references in my spring decor...

This project builds on one I've created before (linked below this post) and is an easy way to add some springtime charm to your front door or indoor walls!

a purse / handbag as the container - thrifted or from your closet!
ribbons that coordinate in color with your handbag

three large stems hydrangea blooms + two extra leaves and one tiny bloom

method:

1. Hang your handbag / purse up using a metal wreath hook or on a doorknob - this helps the bag to hang as it will on your door or wall once complete, and makes adding the flowers much easier than trying to balance it sitting on a table.

I grabbed five lengths of mossy green satin ribbon because the color is a very close match to the fabric on my green Coach purse. I went with a loose, droopy bow and ribbon tails - but you could also tie a large stiff bow, if you wish. Or add a stylish scarf!

2. Add the first bloom by doubling up the stem to make it shorter, then placing it on one side of the purse. The part of the stem holding the flower is up against the right side of the purse. (See the 'materials' photo up above with faux flower stems to see how I bent them).

3. Add the second bloom, making it stand up taller by bending only the bottom third of the stem. Place it in the center of the purse.

4. Add the third bloom to the left side of the purse, bending the stem in half as with the first flower. Nudge it up against the left side of the purse.

5. When all blooms are in place, carefully bend the top of the stems to make the blooms tilt forward - this way the whole bloom is visible, not just the sides, and they look much fuller in the arrangement.

6. Tuck the extra leaves and tiny bloom into any bare spaces in the center of the purse. The photos below show where I placed mine:

A beautiful floral arrangement like this only takes a few minutes to create!

Once it was finished, I spied the faux white tulips in my pom pom vase from a recent post... and decided to add them to the arrangement:

I pushed the eight-bloom bunch of them into the back side of the hydrangeas, in the top center of the arrangement. Then  I bent a few stems and pulled them forward to the front lower part of the arrangement, dispersing the white tulips throughout the green flowers.

The photos below show you the details up close:

I will say one thing... I'll be displaying this INDOORS because I don't want anyone to steal this darling Coach purse off of my front door! (Thank you again, daughter Beth! 💚) . If you'll be hanging yours on your front door, maybe choose a purse / handbag in a fun color - but not a designer brand!
