i don't let what's available at stores limit my decorating plans.
i just take what they provide and then add to it or rework it to make it fit MY style!

this little tree is a perfect example of that...
lots of people have the original version of this in their Christmas decor this year,
but none of theirs look like this!
some white paint and a few scraps of paint chips gave it a total makeover.

continue reading to see the before and after!

in a previous post i shared the trees that i picked up at Target this year -
in the 'before' shot, you saw this white wood and crepe paper tree.

the moment i saw it in the bin at Target, i knew i was going to add to it.

first, i painted the base and trunk white.

remember the thin paint chip strips cut for orb ornaments?
i had some scraps of those left over, so i cut them into even thinner strips
and then cut them into small pieces.

i applied them from bottom to top, in a diagonal rainbow pattern -
starting along the bottom edge with purple and ending on the top with pink.
a drop of hot glue holds those tiny strips onto the crepe paper tree 'boughs'.

it's a colorful exclamation point on the mantel paired with white ceramic houses,
a white bottle brush tree and white foliage, and a few colorful vintage glass ornaments.
i added the framed paint chip art Christmas tree at the last minute!
________________________________________

ok. i'm gonna' fess up about something...
this post was supposed to have included a larger version of this tree.
i tried to build one on a wire tomato cage frame.
great idea - lousy execution. i haaaaaate it. so you aren't gonna' see it!

my plan is to play with it some more and see if i can work out the kinks -
if i do, i'll share it on Insta. if i don't, it ends there.

this is the reality of creativity... we don't always succeed.
our ideas don't always work out.
our imaginations sometimes overshoot our abilities.
and that's okay!

because it's the act of trying, playing, experimenting
that feeds our creative souls and expands our skillset.
when things don't work out, i just use the elements for something else.

...and there is always something else to imagine and create!
