i'm really having fun this year making current trends my own.
my DIYs fit my style, my color palette, and my budget
but give me all the fun and impact of what's hot this season...
case in point: the current Target Tree Trend.
every account on Insta is showing them.
people are ransacking their local Tarjay store Bullseye's Playground racks to get them.
along with bottle brush trees, these things are a must-have this holiday.
when i first saw them online, i knew EXACTLY what i would do to them if i could find them.
well, i found some. and then, i made them fit my style - with paint, of course.
in a rainbow array of color - of course.
in patterns that replicate paint chips because... it's a theme.
keep reading to see more of them, and what i did with 'em!

when you get the trees at Target, they are green and wood and white -
as shown on the left. i grabbed one of every style my local store had.
(that fringed white tree got a makeover, too - coming soon!)
that wasn't a great selection but it's ok, it's enough for me.
in the same parking lot as my Target Superstore, there's a Dollar Tree store,
so i sauntered over there and found another ceramic tree that fit in with the others -
it's octagonal shaped, similar in modern feel. so it joined the party!
painting them was a simple task - i started with a base coat of bright white primer,
then white paint, then added the varied shades of color to each one in a 'paint chip' pattern.
after the colors were dry, i touched up the white lines.
then i gave them all a quick coat of gloss varnish.
and on the two 'rainbow' trees with lots of color,
i sprinkled some glitter onto the treetop while the varnish was still wet.

here they gather in front of my faux fireplace mantel on some glass dessert pedestals,
where my toy truck that is exactly like my Grandpa Ward's truck
and some white ceramic houses (from Target last year) create a cute village scene.
i sprinkled vintage snow crystals around them for these photos
and i can't get rid of it - it's everywhere in my studio now!!! it's very sparkly in here!

they also look fabulous on the mantel,
paired with colorful paint chip trees and paper chains.
i'm thinking that they'll hang out for a few months, since they work for winter!
we don't get snow here, but who knows... i might just add some colorful snowflakes
and some of my Sweet Sweater Snowmen to the vignette in January ;)
