my most popular idea shared here last Christmas was
my faux wood trees, made from wood-print scrapbook paper.
i could never have anticipated the response to them (thank you!!!!)
since this year my theme is all about color and creativity and paint chips,
i created this new version as a fun and easy addition to the decor...
they are made like the paint chip ornaments on my tree...
i glued paint strips to sheets of posterboard, then cut out triangular tree shapes.
i glued paint strips to sheets of posterboard, then cut out triangular tree shapes.
on the back side, they have a simple little folded rectangle that holds them upright.
the green and orange trees were made using scraps of my own handpainted paint chip paper.
the red/pink, purple, yellow, and blue trees are made of regular paint chip strips.
my faux wood trees last year had bases/trunks made of junk & scrap wood...
i kept looking around trying to find something to use in a similar way with these colorful trees,
but just never found a solution i liked.
colorful nursery blocks (ABCs), building blocks, even Lego bricks would make cute trunks!
combining the trees with a few colorful glass ornaments, lights, and paper chains
make for a whimsical and bright mantel this holiday season.
and if paint chips aren't your aesthetic, it's ok!
scraps of gift wrap are perfect for this project - as would book pages.
these trees came together in less than ten minutes,
using some scraps from my gift wrapping paper hoard.
(i save every scrap bigger than my hand!)
the paper chain took about five minutes.
on a bookshelf in a nursery or playroom, this charming scene could stay all winter long!
