faced with a creative challenge, i usually turn to paint as a solution.
unable to find THE ribbon i had envisioned in my mind, i made my own.
time consuming? yeah. but very inexpensive, and totally worth the effort.
and yes, you can do this, too - no advanced paint techniques needed.
the whole time i was creating paint chip paper and paint chip bows
and wrapping boxes for my last post,
i was searching online and in local craft stores for rainbow ribbon.
but... um.... not just ANY rainbow ribbon. i didn't want long stripes.
i wanted a pattern that looked more like the squares in paint chips.
i couldn't find it. and i couldn't let go of the idea of using some. soooo.....
i started with a spool of plain white grosgrain ribbon from Dollar Tree.
basic craft paints in my bright rainbow palette and a handful of small paint brushes
made this easy as could be...
if you look at the posterboard surface, you see some black lines.
those measure out the segments that i painted in roygbiv color order.
every segment has the same colors, same order, same size square.
i stretched the white ribbon across the surface and taped the ends in place
then painted all of the red squares, then orange, then yellow, and so on.
and i think you'll agree that it was totally worth the effort and time!
i love love love how this looks - just sitting there in a roll AND in use on decor projects:
if i had more time and patience, i'd make a larger/wider version of the ribbon.
maybe in January?!

ReplyDeletethank you, darlin'! i guess some might think it obsessive that i am so tied to a theme that i'd paint ribbon to match.... i really appreciate that you 'get' me!!!! it was actually fun, and i love the results.
DeleteGreat solution. I just wanted you to know you’re not alone. I don’t think it’s going too far at all. Our nay-sayers are just jealous of our creative brains. 😁 love the ribbon and everything I’ve seen today! Found you through an upload you did on HomeTalk. So glad I followed you home.
