With Cinco De Mayo just days away, I thought I'd share some older content that might just inspire a different way to approach this spring holiday... an option for those who aren't into a riot of color.
The contemporary, nature-based approach here brings to mind Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and Terrain style. It would be easy to pull together with boho, rustic, industrial, farmhouse, and modern interior decor elements, and will work indoors and outdoors to make Your Cinco De Mayo celebrations really easy - just add tequila!
Along with the way I have paired up natural elements with glass and faux succulents, you'll also find a quick tutorial for making some faux succulents to decorate with.

A few years back, I re-decorated our guest room with a modern southwest vibe, including using faux cactus as accents. Some of them were inside glass vases, with small pea gravel from our backyard or wine corks as vase' filler':

All of those were pulled into duty for this tablescape. The smaller vases were used in the centerpiece...

The woodgrain 'pedestal' holding one vase adds a dark counterpoint to the light palette, and it isn't really wood at all - it's a painted ceramic piece.
It was a thrifted find that i have used in our holiday 2019 and winter 2020 decor... here, it's actually being used upside down!
The larger glass vases with succulents are grouped on the sideboard behind the table, paired with a weathered wood board to coordinate the whole look. Another green runner would look great on the sideboard, as well.
Each place setting has a pale tan placemat, to coordinate with the hues of the stones. The green melamine dinnerware picks up on another shade of green in the succulents, and the clear glassware echoes the clear vases.
The green fabric napkins match the runner - and I tried two ways of arranging them. Originally, I had pictured them spiraled and sitting in the bowls, however that just didn't look right.
So I laid them straight across the plates, under the bowls, in line with the runner. The crisp clean linear look of that worked better with the other table components...

I love 'shopping the house' to decorate for seasons and celebrations... it always leads me to new ways to pair things up, or use them in new ways. Bonus: it's FREE!
What do you have around your house that you can use as decor elements?
Gravel from a fire pit area? Wine corks? Bark from the landscaping? Look around - you might be surprised!
Now excuse me while I go grab myself a margarita.... ;)
