This week has been filled with cold, windy, wet, rainy days here in So Cal, with a few 'sunbreaks' along the way. It feels very much like Winter, but I'm still hanging on for springtime to arrive soon... and I love using nests in my spring decor. So I chose to create a cozy 'wintery' nest in the easiest possible way!
Continue reading to see how insanely FAST & EASY this project is, along with some tips on how to style it...Let's make a nest!
Materials:

one skein of yarn - any color, any size!
(I found mine at the Dollar Tree for $1.25)
You'll also want a plate, bowl, planter pot, vase, or other object to display your nest on (more tips on that later in the post)
Method:
1. + 2. Slide the paper wrapper off of the yarn skein.
3. Stand the skein up on one end (squish it just a bit to make it puff out)
4. Push both of your thumbs inside the yarn skein, and slowly pull outward. Continue until the center of the skein is hollowed out like a bowl.
5. Sit the yarn 'nest' onto a surface for displaying it. Mine is on a white china saucer - but I'll add more in a moment!
6. I added a length of darker mint green seam binding ribbon inside the nest, to add more detail to the nest. The end of the ribbon also circles around the bottom of the nest.

7. I placed the saucer with the nest on top of an inverted white vase, to give it some height and presence in the display.
8. I already had a small white ceramic bird (also from Dollar Tree), so I sat her into the nest - she fits perfectly!

9. A few simple additions of things I already had completed the display - more ribbon in a white glass cup, a green metal box, and a sprig of vintage millinery flowers in white.
It's easy to 'shop your house' and find items to use as 'props' in a seasonal display... pairing white containers like dishes and vases, with accents in a single color from your decor scheme, really makes an impact.
This simple display took less than ten minutes to assemble, which is considerably LESS time than it took to photograph, edit, and write this post 😉
She's a sweet reminder that Spring will arrive...
I added a vintage mint green plastic cafeteria tray behind the display for this photo, to help the sweet white bird stand out more. It's okay to keep 'zhooshing' your decor until you love it!
