i dropped a ball of twine on the floor in my studio, it unraveled...
and this nest was the result!

i love it when something happens that makes me look at a material
in a new way, with a new use in a new seasonal accent.
and this one couldn't have been easier!

wanna' turn a ball of dollar store twine into a nest in less than five minutes?

the construction of this nest is loose and unsecured,
so you'll need a container to put it into -
a flowerpot, bowl, vintage tin, candle pedestal, etc. work perfectly.

TUTORIAL

MATERIALS:

1 rounded (not cylindrical) ball of twine per nest (i get mine at Dollar Tree)

a container that has a bit of depth to it, to hold the nest in place

real moss, eyelash yarn, ribbon, or paper shred filler

faux eggs, if you wish

METHOD:

top row, from left:

begin with the ball of twine: start unwrapping the twine from the outer edge,
and wrap it into a circle on your work surface.
there's no glue, you're not securing the twine to itself, just wrapping it into a circle!
*DON'T UNWRAP THE WHOLE BALL!
just work with the end, and let it unwrap as you create the circle.

continue unwrapping the twine, adding more and more 'layers' to the circle.
my nest is @ 4" across and 2" high, and i used about 1/4 of the twine ball.
*DON'T CUT THE TWINE!

middle row, from left:

put some moss, paper shred, or eyelash yarn 'grass' into your container -
fill it, as it will help support the finished nest.

carefully pick up your twine 'circle' and gently sit it into your container,
on top of your filler.

bottom row, from left:

place the remaining twine ball into the center of your 'circle' -
in a container like my flowerpot, the ball sinks down out of sight
and becomes the 'bottom' of the nest.

add a tiny bit of your filler to the center of the twine circle.

voila! you have a nest!

add a ceramic egg like i did (or maybe a fake chocolate bunny) to finish it off.

this method is so fast, you can create a nest in about four minutes.

once spring is over and you're done with the nest,
you can lift it out of the container, wrap the twine back onto the ball,
and use it for something else! that's my kind of decorating!

this easy-peasy spring accent is perfect anywhere -
on an entry table, as a centerpiece, or a windowsill!
