it's the last month of summer - no, it aint' over yet!!!

while it's still warm and sunny, why not invite friends, family, and neighbors over
to enjoy good food and hospitality... and easy summertime style.

simply combine vintage and new dishes & glassware,
along with some vacation souvenirs, found objects, and stuff you have around the house.
in no time at all, you'll be back on the beach!

i created this tablescape on my whitewashed pine farmhouse table,
the perfect place for a neutral-hued scene... the weathered-look boards have a coastal style all their own.

(i'm gonna' fess up about that backdrop in the photo above...
it's the picket fence panel i made for my found & foraged flag. on the wood ladder easel.
...and it's there to hide the mess i made on the kitchen island as i was prepping the table! wink.)

once again, i started this design with my white dishes as the base.
these things are workhorses, and i swear i will never get tired of them! SO many possibilities.
to coordinate with them, a few pieces of white serveware serve as the base of the centerpiece:
a vintage ironstone chamber pot and a newer ceramic tray embossed with seashells and sea creatures.

the chamber pot is filled with heavy twine that drips like seaweed, topped with large shells.
more large shells sit on the tray, and a few spill off onto a stack of small vintage & new china plates.
behind it all, two tall glass vases filled with shells add height -
but because the shells in them are are white, they don't add visual bulk to the setting.

the place settings are a mix of my contemporary white china and brown vintage transferware.
normally you'd see this kind of vintage china in fall (and i used it in a tablescape last spring),
but the color works so perfectly with my neutral seashell palette that i tucked them in here.
each setting is a bit different due to having unmatched transferware - it's more interesting that way!

each place setting has a folded napkin topped with a perfect seashell souvenir -
you could easily write each guests name on these with a paint pen, to have them serve as place cards.

the glassware is vintage, and the columnar shapes echo the tall vases holding shells.
even the flat-fold napkins are in line with the table boards... it's all very simple and airy in feel.
just like being at the beach!

a big plus is that this centerpiece can stay on your table even when you aren't entertaining,
adding sweet summertime style to your dining room every day.
