years ago - seven, to be exact - i made this original creation shown above.
i call them 'glass globe pumpkins' because they are made from vintage glass light globes.
(the kind that hang on the ceilings of hallways & kitchens in old houses)
more recently, i found some unique vintage glass lamp globes* and turned them into pumpkins -
with a twist. i did something on these that i didn't do on the originals...

glass globes of any shape and size work for this project...
real pumpkins aren't perfectly round, so glass ones don't need to be, either!
in variations on my original over the years,
i have seen people use new crackled & clear round glass globes, painted white or black or orange
(on the INSIDE of the glass).
i've also seen people add mini lights and battery operated candles inside the pumpkins.
that works - but i still prefer the uniqueness and character of the vintage glass.

i really LOVE the shape and detail on this large one. i paid too much for it, but it's so cool!
i'm still wondering if i should paint it gloss white, though....
by now, you've probably noticed the 'twist' on these, right? it's the stems.
instead of using wood spools and twine-wrapped foil like i did with my originals,
i used salvaged hardware: metal cabinet knobs and light fixture finials.
those 'stems' all got my super-secret weapon faux 'rust' paint treatment.
before i painted them, one knob was silver, one was black, and one was white. and all ugly!
i painted them, then hot-glued them on top of the glass globes (to hide the holes there)...
now they have rustic charm, and i love the rough texture paired with the smooth glass of the globes.

* i think glass globe pumpkins look perfect displayed with bleached leaves
I love the globes you found! They are beautiful :)
