September has arrived, along with a refreshing cool front ('only' 91 degrees here this weekend!)
suddenly i found myself in a fall mood, ready to change up the front porch decor...
in true 'homewardFOUND' fashion, i started rooting around the garage to see what was on hand.
and in the process, i found something we bought back in JANUARY - and promptly forgot about.
we had a purpose in mind back then, but when i pulled it out of a box on Friday,
i immediately came up with a completely different way to use it.
(which is really no surprise to any of you, i am sure!)
there's a hint in the photo above, and when you continue reading, you'll see it!
yes, that IS what you think it is: a vintage garden hose holder...
it's also the perfect shape and size to serve as an attractive & useful wreath holder!
(previously, i used a rusty metal wall-hung candle sconce to hold wreaths - so there's another idea!)
our front porch decor always includes this wreath 'form', made from two steel wine barrel rings.
they came from Mom & Dad's old house, where once-upon-a-time she had a wine country theme,
and since we now live in bonafide wine country, they are a perfect accent.
for early fall, i'm keeping it simple and natural. no pumpkins YET!
i went with natural materials that could be foraged nearby - grasses and seed pods -
and a few items left over from the former homewardFOUND shop's inventory.
the wood frames (the small one is hung backward because i love the texture!)
are simply hung from the rings using an old canvas military belt and some twine.
i know those wonky angles might drive some of you crazy (no, it's not on the Titanic!!!) but i like 'em.
i embellished the wreath form by tying on natural elements:
handfuls of wild grasses, bleached leaves, plus two of my handmade NeSts.
the natural brown/gold/beige tones are perfect for the season, and they harmonize with our house color.
on the wood bench beneath it (the only thing that fits this very dark, narrow, enclosed portico),
i placed more rusty metal and wood accents (candelabra, vintage hot plate, box & sign)
and a vintage crock in light beige tones filled with seed pods - trimmed off of flowering plants in the backyard.
that basket beneath the bench is waiting for armloads of lavender, which i need to trim in the garden -
they will make this entryway smell divine!
the candelabra needed candles - but it's gonna' be in the triple digits for a month here,
so i am letting wood clothespins 'stand in' for now. it's whimsical!
the sign is simply a rough wood picket fence remnant that i wrote on with a paint pen.
( i used the same materials to create my rustic signpost from scrap wood)

need more fall outdoor decorating inspo?
using simple elements, gathered together to tell an early fall story,
with a style that is uniquely our own...
(not identical to what everyone else bought at.... you know.)
that's what homewardFOUND decor is all about!
