O CHRISTMAS TREE
this year, i'm using 'artful' elements from my studio and my stash
to bring this holiday decor theme to life in my studio...
yes, green fits my current 'green era' color obsession,
AND it allows for a re-visit / re-style of some of the
elements that i have used for holiday decor in the past.
follow along for the next few weeks as i share
easy tutorials using stuff you already have on hand
to create a whimsical, magical holiday mood in your home...
and you can choose any color YOU love!
first up, an easy-peasy paper project that even the kids can get in on!
continue reading for tutorial and links to other similar projects...
it's just a foam wreath, covered in fabric,
with paper circles pinned onto it, giving the effect of round ornaments.
Let's Make It!
Materials:
old Christmas cards, gift tags, wrapping paper
and any other paper you want to use (like paint chips!)
scissors . straight pins . a foam wreath form
Method:
gather up all of those old Christmas/holiday cards you have
(because we allllll save them!) and cut them into circles.
small, medium, large, extra large circles - varied sizes, or all the same.
select your preferred colors, or make a multi-color masterpiece.
it's up to you! (this is a GREAT project for kids!)
naturally, i chose cards with green tones on them.
i also took a piece of posterboard that is covered in green paint splotches
(i use it as a 'drop cloth' on my work table) and cut some circles out of it:
i like how adding a patterned paper element to the wreath
brings energy to the composition...
wrapping paper would give you the same effect.
(tip: glue thin wrapping paper to posterboard,
then cut out your circles to help it hold the shape.)
decide where you want the circles on your wreath - depending on its size,
you may need to cut a LOT of circles to get the coverage you want.
there are 28 circles and two round paper ornaments on mine.
then just simply pin the paper circles onto a foam wreath form -
mine is made from a pool noodle and is covered with fabric,
but you can cover a foam wreath with gift wrap paper, too.
i used straight pins with beaded heads in coordinating colors,
but plain straight pins work just fine.
and yes, you CAN glue the circles onto a wreath. i just like to re-use things!
after i pinned on all of the paper circles that i cut,
i grabbed a few other paper ornaments - made in 2020 with paint chips.
they are lightweight and coordinate perfectly with the other paper circles:
i'll be sharing how to make those in an upcoming post.
a few small lightweight, unbreakable ornaments are tucked in, too.
this wreath would still work perfectly without the trees...
they just fit the theme!
next up: another simple wreath with handpainted ornaments
