spring is trying to arrive. mother nature is just a bit fickle right now...
until she makes up her mind, i find ways to 'force' spring by adding flowers to my decor.
and i don't just mean in vases and pots...

a 'bouquet' of faux flowers was used to embellish this plain lampshade,
adding spring-fresh style with little effort.

first off, that lampshade ISN'T a lampshade. i mean... it didn't start out that way.
flipped upside down and nestled onto the lamp harp. easy, right?!!!
as for the floral embellishments...
i had a few blooms (carnation made from fabric, rhinestone pins, ribbon)
then i made a few more (ribbon, coffee filters & paint, bias tape)
first i wrapped the fat yellow ribbon around the shade and pinned it into place,
leaving 'tails' to hang down in the front where the flowers would go.
tiny clothespins and a few straight pins on the back side of the flowers
hold them all onto the wire structure.
the rhinestone pins went last, held in place by their own hardware.

the yellow ribbon wraps around the shade at precisely the level of the light bulb,
blocking the harsh glare of light when it's turned on.
the flower placement in the front expands on that, covering the brightest glow of the bulb.
the light glows THROUGH some of the flowers, too!
the fresh springtime vibe this shade adds to the lamp really makes a difference...
in a vignette with my big gray chair and the credenza in my studio,
it created the perfect little spot for morning or afternoon tea and reading.

ps: i LOVED the book 'The Wedding Bees'!
as i was reading it, i pictured Emma Stone as the lead character, Sugar Wallace.
so i would like someone to make a film about this book, and cast her in it.
come to think of it, Ryan Gosling would be a perfect Theo! ;)
