this 'sunny' summer project is the third in a series...
designed to bring a fun, colorful vibe to my garden this season
and hopefully to inspire you to try something similar in your home!
every gardener loves to ID the plants they grow,
and this cute plant marker project is an easy way to use stuff around the house
to make an artful impact in the yard!
continue reading to see what i used and how easily these are made...
this project makes use of an item i have a LOT of:
little yellow tins that previously held Rescue Remedy pastille candies.
okay, they aren't actually candies, they are herbal supplements
that do a FANTASTIC job of alleviating stress and anxiety. they taste good, too.
and they come in a cute tin that can be re-used in all kinds of ways!
i simply pulled all of the 'tabs' around the lid out so they laid flat
(normally they are what holds the lid onto the bottom of the tin)
and then sprayed both lid and base with yellow spray paint.
some old metal tent stakes were affixed to the back of each one
to form the stakes that will hold them up in the garden.
i used hot glue. [which i don't recommend, if you live in Hell. which i do.
it's already over 100 here every day. by July it will be 115.]
that kind of heat melts hot glue offa' everything. fast.
a better idea would be epoxy.
now, i'ma be honest: i added these plant names in my photo editing program.
but it would be a simple task to use a waterproof Sharpie marker
to write your plant names in any font or style you choose. or use decals/stickers.
variation:
plain round metal jar lids would work for this project, as well,
and if you used many colors of paint, they could resemble flowers instead of suns!
to identify them so that your kid or your husband won't yank up the 'weeds'. sigh.
and the formerly-a-windmill-wall-hanging 'sunshine' wall art/wreath/door hanger
that now bring a summer vibe to our raised garden bed in the backyard.
when you can envision and create various kinds of decor in sets like this,
it saves you time during the making
and then gives you a way to embrace a 'theme' in your spaces each season.
OR it gives you extras to be able to gift to others!
from their first incarnation - as seen in the photo above - to their FINAL 'Disney-fied' versions!
'Small World Big Sun' project!)
