talk about sun salutations!
i was staring at some junk that was sitting in the garage the other day,
decided it looked a bit like something from a place i love,
decided it looked a bit like something from a place i love,
and came up with another way to make a sunny project
that's perfect on your front door, wall, or even garden fence!
this is an easy one to make,
using only a few pieces of metal junk, paint, a wreath hanger, and some zip ties...
*** as a matter of fact, it's SO EASY that i just RE-DID this project
with a *bit* more of the original inspiration included! ***

continue reading for details on the original project AND the changes i just made...
this project is actually the first of THREE variations on a theme.
all made from metal junk found around the house,
all spray painted in this sunny yellow hue.
(stay tuned for the other two projects in coming posts!)
for this one, i grabbed some rusting galvanized pieces,
one of which you've seen before...
the small galvie windmill wall hanging was from Hobby Lobby a few years back,
and i used it in our garden, hung on a metal tomato cage like this:
combined with another piece of metal, and painted,
now it's got a whole new look!
the windmill wall hanging was attached to a damaged plant roller (from IKEA),
using zip ties to hold them together.
(ignore the metal 'ring' in the middle image - it was used on another project)
after painting it all yellow, the sun was ready to come out and play,
and it became garden art in our backyard raised garden area:
(pssst! don't miss these other sunny garden projects! see this post )
didja' know you can use wreath hangers to hang art on your FENCES
as well as on your doors?! yep!
cheap, easy, NO damage, and easy to remove.
i love that they perfectly fit the ugly vinyl fencing around our backyard.
i didn't even notice the bee happily buzzing around the sun when i snapped that photo!
of course, you could hang it on a door, to welcome guests:
tho i like the sort of mod feel of this simple version,
the image at the top of this post shows a sweet little kawaii face painted on.
that's easy to do with craft paints!

oh, and the thing from the place i love that inspired this project?
(is anyone REALLY surprised by this?!!!!)

UPDATE:
so. sometimes a project turns out good.
and then you get an idea to make it BETTER.

i got to thinking about the big sun in the attraction,
and wanted to add more details to mine
so it would look just like the one in the last 'room' of the Small World (shown above).
whaddya' think?! BETTER, right?!
especially for a major Disneyland Small World fan. (me)
the features of the face are really simple...
those eyes? the lids of some mint tins, painted yellow and flattened.
(you'll see them in another garden project post soon!)

i glued magnets on the back of them and they stick perfectly to the metal 'sun'!
the nose is another magnet, covered with yellow gift wrap plus plastic tape.
ditto for the cheeks.
and the subtle smile is painted on with paint pens, right in the groove on the plant roller.
