are you one of the few people in the world
who is looking for some Thanksgiving decor?
who hasn't moved on to decorate for Christmas already?!
i'm one of you - and my next few posts will center on this holiday that i really love!

last November i shared my tutorial for making a cornucopia
using a wire tomato cage and some burlap.
this year, it's been elevated from the tabletop
to hang on the door as a gorgeous 'wreath'
or as welcoming 'wall art' anywhere in your home.

the cornucopia is made from a wire tomato cage and burlap,
plus some hemp rope and a paper bag!

i embellished the cornucopia with fall leaf garlands
and filled it with a few styro pumpkins from Dollar Tree (not an ad)
and two of my very first Original Sweet Sweater pumpkins from 2007!

a helpful tip:
after i made my cornucopia, i hung it up on the door
to hold it securely as i worked on the 'filling'.

the photo below shows how the cornucopia hangs
from the largest/bottom tomato cage ring (under the burlap and paper bag)
looped onto a wreath hook on the door:

i filled the inside of the cornucopia - lined with a paper bag -
with crumpled packing paper to fill in the space and hold the decor.

then i added the leafy garlands and branches,
sticking up from the container and swirling down around it.
two large bunches of leaves were added after this photo,
to give the arrangement more height.

the big sweater pumpkins went in next,
then the smaller styro pumpkins and a few small leaf picks.
(i just nestled them in there, but you could always add a wood skewer
to each pumpkin to hold it in place on the crumpled paper stuffing.)

it's the perfect welcome for a festive fall holiday
hanging on front door from a wreath hook
or simply on a porch or entryway wall...

i hung it on the old metal gate in our entry hallway for this photo:

this lovely gate was originally on my parents' house when they bought it in 1980,
leading to the side yard from the driveway. it's from the 1970's.
he saved it, though, and then i hauled it to our new home in 2016
knowing it would be a beautiful piece of wall 'art' in this hallway!

around 1995, Dad built a replacement gate from wood and painted it white,
and THAT gate became the backdrop of my faux fireplace in my studio:
(i snagged it when he built the second wood gate in 2013!)
