it's summertime... and the livin' should be easy!
it's time to simplify, lighten up, and create rooms that welcome a casual, fun, active lifestyle
to enjoy over the next few months.
i have a few simple ideas to make your home feel like a resort all summer long
without having to spend a lot of your vacation / stay-cation cash!

here are my top five tips for adding summer style to your rooms:

#1. create spaces to enjoy the outdoors
gather up a small table and two chairs on the front porch or back patio,
and create a cafe' setting for a tête-à-tête twosome or a solo reverie.
it's the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee and evening glass of wine...
doesn't matter if it's plastic - pop a sheet on it as a tablecloth. done!

#2. cover dark & heavy furnishings with white slipcovers
don't have fancy PB white denim slipcovers? no problem...
use drop cloths (available in two affordable sizes at Harbor Freight)
remember to wash 'em first with LOTS of fabric softener and some EPSOM SALT!
for a real 'Grandma's House' memory, use chenille bedspreads.

#3. use sheer or mesh curtains on windows - and doors
when the windows are open and these catch the breeze, your temperature drops.
(yes, it's science. VISUAL science!)
hang them on a tension rod and put in an open doorway for a fast 'screen door', too.
the white mesh curtain panels shown here are available inexpensively at IKEA.

#4. get out all of those shells you've gathered on vacations
a few large ones on a table or shelf or a few jars filled with smaller varieties
bring easy summer + natural style fast - and are simple to move out of the way.

don't collect shells? summer is about enjoying nature!
bring in a fabulous tree branch or stump, a few large pine cones,
river stones or desert rocks to serve as reminders to get outside and relax...

or simply lighten up with white accessories, including lamps, pillows, and books
(they don't have to be white - just wrap 'em in white butcher paper!)

#5. lighten up your bedroom with all white bedding
nothing has to match, so mix it up - new with vintage, plain with embellished.
piles of pillows, simple white sheets and a white matlasse' or chenille spread
make for a very hotel-like atmosphere to rest in.

pssst: this is a sneak peek at a new post coming up next week...
you're gonna' love that easy headboard project!

with a few easy changes like these,
your home will feel relaxed and ready for summer.
which means YOU can relax, too!
