it's JUNE! that puts me in a summery mood, how about you?
way back in 2013, i shared '5 ways to decorate with seashells' in a post...
while they were all good ideas, i can say that based on pins, re-pins, and blog post visits,
THIS ONE has been the overwhelming fave every summer since then.
it's a perfect time to revisit this easy summer decor project!
continue reading to see how simple it is to create variations of your own...
when i made the first ones TEN YEARS AGO (!),
i was lucky to have found old pickle jars with naturally rusted white metal lids...
i simply collected shells from the beaches on my island in Washington state,
and filled the jars with them. some broken shells and nests made of seagrass add texture,
and a simple twine tie & manila tag finish them off.
(i also save sand & shells in jars when i go on vacation -
and the tags tell me what beach they came from!)
in later years, i used newer mason jars, and simply covered the (shiny) metal lid
with a piece of canvas or burlap, tied on with twine.

i embellished some of the jars with vintage book snippets of summer-y, beach-y words.

and when you opened the lid, you could actually smell the sea (even tho i washed the shells!).
i made & sold hundreds of those babies every summer from 2008 to 2011
at antique & vintage shows up and down the West coast.
... and do you know, i just realized that i don't even HAVE one?!!!
i have shells. from my island, even. and i have jars.
guess we know what Deb's doing later today, huh?! (watch my IG for a photo!)
UPDATE:
i made one just for me! and shared it on my Insta!

Great post, Deb, and so inspiring! It makes me think of the awesome collections of aristocratic men & women in some of my favorite English novels. Trip to Bath, anyone? :) Have a sweet day as you work on your collection. Thank you for the mention, and for all of your inspiration & advice over the years! ❤️
