in my last post, i shared my new faux Kintsugi painted eggs,
and in the background of a few shots you saw a small collection of wood crosses.
today, i'm focusing on those and how they are made from 'everyday' materials.

Easter arrives in just a few days, and it is one of the most important days of the year to me.
my faith is built on the miraculous events celebrated on this day centuries ago,
and my hope resides in the promises God made about what it all means for the future.

Easter is also the day that my sweet Dad went home to Heaven seven years ago,
just as the sun was rising and beaming through the windows onto his peaceful face...
a precious reminder about what is really important in this life.

having a cross (or collection of crosses) in my decor is important to me,
and i love being able to make them unique and personal.
i hope these ideas inspire you!

the smallest cross in the vignette came from a store...

the Dollar Tree! i didn't do anything to it at all.

the second cross is made with simple rulers...

the horizontal crosspiece was my Grandma's desk ruler
(her name is written in her inimitable cursive writing on the back side)
and the vertical piece is a large ruler that i bought at a vintage show.

i simply used electrical tape to hold them together
(it is easily removable without damaging anything.)

this cross was also bought at a vintage show...

it was made by combining two pieces of old weathered wood fencing.
there's a small hook on the back for hanging.

this cross is one i've shared before on the blog...

it's a weathered wood planter!
the fabric backing rotted away (i had it displayed outdoors),
so i filled the empty cavity with torn pages from an old children's Bible storybook.
i love that words like 'faith' and 'believe' show up if i look close enough.

(there's a great story that goes along with this cross,
so i'm linking my original post about it below)

combined together, the crosses and nest filled with Kintsugi eggs look beautiful
and they also have a message...
at the foot of the cross, we lay our brokenness.
and we are accepted. we are healed.

as a child, one of my favorite songs to sing on Sunday nights in church
was 'The Old Rugged Cross'.
a traditional hymn, it always filled me with a sense of awe and wonder
at what two simple pieces of wood became as part of
the greatest love story ever told.
[listen to it here, if you'd like]

Wishing you a Blessed Easter & Passover, my friends.

i've shared some deep thoughts on Easter in a new page on the blog...
i wrote and have shared it on my personal facebook profile
for over six years now, and it is important that i share it here, as well.
