crepe paper dandelions

summer's on the horizon!
with Memorial Day coming up this weekend, many parties are being planned...
from backyard bashes to pool parties to picnics in the park.
that last one gave me an idea for a tablescape/party theme
and i'm revisiting a past project as part of it.

last spring, i participated in an art challenge on Instagram,
and making a paper dandelion was one of my entries.
today i'm sharing the easy process with you, 
along with inspiration for a fun summery table decor idea!

they might look pretty realistic, but these blooms are made from paper!
crepe paper, to be exact. (i pick up partial rolls at thrift stores for pennies.)

here's how i make them:

supplies:
scissors, yellow crepe paper, transparent tape

process:
cut a length of crepe paper @8 inches long
fold it in half, three or four times
using sharp scissors, cut along one edge toward the other edge - 
cut 2/3 of the width, leaving 1/3 intact

unfold the strip of crepe paper
start at one end, hold the uncut edge, and roll it tightly toward the other end
wrap a tiny piece of transparent tape around the uncut end
fluff the cut paper with your fingers

insert them randomly into a piece of faux grass as i did:

or place them in a few pots lined with moss or faux grass.
you could also wrap some wire around the taped end to serve as 'stems',
and put the 'bouquet' into a small vase or soda bottle!

my dandelion tablescape idea is really simple:

it's a 10" wide strip of faux grass, left over from our backyard landscaping,
laid on top of a happy yellow vinyl tablecloth (Walmart!), dotted with dandelions.

some yellow plastic plates and soda bottles with yellow straws
bring a picnic in the park feel to the table - 
perfect for a summer weekend!

 is there anything better than receiving a bouquet like this?

i remember when 'grandson numbah one' (the oldest) used to visit our island farm
and run around the backyard gathering up dandelions - 
and then presented them to me just like this,
his chubby little fist overflowing with blooms and a smile on his face.
weeds? nope. better than long-stemmed roses, in my opinion!

that grandson is 16 now and just got his drivers' license. 
how does time fly by so fast???!!!
