upcycled garden 'bee cups'

this project may not fall within my usual 'seasonal home decor' category,
but it certainly fits my 'use what you have' philosophy!

have you heard of 'bee cups'?
created to provide a safe fresh water source for garden pollinators,
they're a hot item among naturalists and gardeners here in the West...
with our drought conditions, access to water is important to every living thing.

i've seen several versions of 'bee cups' for sale,
and one day as i was taking care of a task at home, a very simple item
(that was about to be trash) caught my eye - and this project is the result!

continue reading to see what i used (if you haven't figured it out yet!)...

i was refilling our home's room fragrance diffusers one day,
and looked at the lids that i had taken off of the bottles...

flip 'em upside down and you have a ready-made bee cup!!!
(i LOVE this Febreze 'Bamboo' scent, btw - fresh, clean, leafy but not floral,
it's long-lasting and a perfect beachy summer scent! not an ad)

so i saved those lids, and used them in a garden project:

two galvanized spray paint can caps serve as the vessels that hold the 'bee cups' -
filled with a handful of pea gravel from our fire pit area,
three Febreze lids are flipped over and tucked into the gravel.

filled with water, they nestle nicely into any area of our herb garden
and provide pollinators with a safe perch to drink on hot days.

btw, the yellow lids are from the 'fresh lemon' scented air freshener refills,
a happy & energizing scent i use in springtime.
(i used those lids in my 'junky flowers' post last month, too)
last fall and winter, i used the warm & earthy 'wood' scented refills,
which had brown caps.

FYI: i'm not being compensated for this recommendation in any way,
i just really love the selection of scents
and the lasting power the Febreze products have!
and when i can use product packaging to create art and decor, i'm even happier ;)
