along with the plethora of tikis i've been creating,
i've added some other tropical decor elements to our home for summer...
elements like this leafy wall art, made from a plastic gift / tote bag!

this project is the kind of easy 'temporary seasonal decor' that i've shared before...
there's a gift bag wall art tutorial here with more detailed step-by-step instructions.
for this project, i used one plastic-y gift / tote bag with a tropical leaf print - from Dollar Tree.
(FYI: i picked it up last December - i haven't seen any on their website this spring.)
the canvases i used are @ 8" square - also from Dollar Tree.

in a way that the signature of the artist - which was on the bag! - is in the lower corner.
that makes this look much more like a piece of art.
measure, cut, staple. done. seriously - it's THAT easy.
i used both sides of the shopping bag, and mounted them differently on two canvases -
the bag had this great geometric border that now appears on the top and bottom of either piece.

this gave me two companion pieces that aren't exactly the same.
when it comes to displaying them, i can hang them on the wall
OR i can prop them up against an easel or solid object to display them on a shelf:
(what's holding up those leaf print canvases?
the white ceramic houses from our winter decor!)
the orange tiki mugs were found at Target / Bullseye's Playground in fall 2019.
the very cool tiki candle was found in a local thrift shop. in December!
i also made a similar piece of wall art,
using another canvas and a bit of leftover fabric:

that looks like burlap, but it's a printed texture on the smooth cotton fabric.
after covering the canvas with it, i painted the 'ALOHA' letters on.
because you can't have tropical / tiki decor without aloha!
