ah, September... a fickle month that can't decide if it's summer or fall!
even between seasons,
nature never fails to delight me with new color combinations and moods,
nature never fails to delight me with new color combinations and moods,
providing endless inspiration for decorating...
inspired by a piece of fabric that evokes a late summer garden,
this tablescape includes some fall elements along with summer flowers and herbs.
it's easy to pull together a pretty table - just look outside for inspiration!

the fabric that inspired this setting is a beautiful floral print that has a lot of green in it.
if not for the green leaves, it would feel VERY 'fall' in mood... and i'm not ready for that yet.
the warm tones of the abstract flowers - orange, coral, red, butter yellow -
evoke the last glorious blooms of summer. (think dahlias!)
used as a tablecloth and as a piece of 'art' on the sideboard, it establishes the 'garden' theme.
i pulled out my eponymous white ceramic dishes (been using them for THIRTY years!)
and paired them with some coral/orange ceramics for contrast.
gold flatware and the gold bases of the glassware coordinate with the warm tones of the flowers in the fabric.
as i was setting up this tablescape, pulling pumpkins out of bins,
i was thinking about how i used them in last year's fall decor: arranged in a color gradient.
it's fun to find new ways to display my favorite things each year...

in the freeform centerpiece, a milk glass vase holds some herb & flower clippings from the garden,
bringing out the greens in the leaves of the fabric -
bringing out the greens in the leaves of the fabric -
i could have played off of that more by choosing green plates or napkins.
the white in the pumpkins picks up on the fabric background and dishes to keep the look light.

and evoke a 'fall' feel without being too dark.
(the napkin looks really 'pumpkin spice' in this photo. it's not. it's orange!)

i tried two different 'takes' on the place setting, changed with one simple accessory:
the pumpkin sitting on top of the plates. and i'm not sure which one i like more!
the orange pumpkin has a gold stem - to coordinate with the flatware & glasses

more pumpkins and a votive holder repeat elements found on the table,
with more cut garden herbs tucked into a potted geranium placed inside a pumpkin.
(and if i were able to GET dahlias, you can be sure i would have added them here, too)
adding a few details to the serving area by repeating elements of your table decor
adds to the visual impact of your theme.
as the season progresses, it's easy to swap out the fabric for a print
that evokes 'fall' with all warm tones, leaves, and more orange pumpkins.
just like in the garden, Mother Nature provides the palette!

LOVE this! Would love to get hold of this fabric! It is perfect for me and my dining area.
ReplyDeleteMiss Jan, i found info on the fabric selvage edge for you: it is Waverly Inspirations Cotton Duck 45" Floral Papaya Fabric on ivory background. that might help you source some! (it's an old pattern - we've had those two pieces of fabric for over five years) best of luck!
