i made use of a rainbow 'ROYGBIV' color palette,
but of course you could make a similar wreath in hues that compliment your home...
i started with a simple ring shape, cut from a sheet of posterboard.
the ring itself measures 20" wide across the outside edges,
and the finished wreath is 24" in width.
i wanted to cover that posterboard but didn't want to use tooooo many paint chips
(because i have so many other projects that i needed them for!)
so i grabbed the paint chips that have the names of all of the paint colors on them...
they were at the backs of all of the paint chip fans,
and they are the perfect solution for this project:
they cover the posterboard AND the black type adds subtle pattern to the background of the wreath.
i folded each strip in half, then placed them on the posterboard ring with the fold on the inner edge.
each side was glued into place, and i worked with one layer first then added the second layer,
so the cards overlap on the inner edge.
it's ok that the posterboard shows a bit on the outer edge -
that's where the color paint chips come in!
i chose two ROYGBIVP sets of paint chips, with nine cards each to fit the circle.
one set is arranged on the left side with the palest tone on the inner edge,
the other set arranged on the right side with the deepest tone on the inner edge.
this made the final effect much more colorful and interesting to me.
here's how i applied the color paint chips:
i glued the chips to the inner edge by folding the strip over 1/4" and hot gluing it on the back of the ring.
i worked all the way around, so that each successive strip
would overlay the previous one for a consistent pattern.
i was going to just glue the outer ends in place. ...and then i had an idea!
i don't have a shot of the wreath from the side, but each strip is in a 'C' shape,
lifting up off of the posterboard form.
the end of each strip was folded over and hot glued into place
the wreath has a much more finished and 'round' look to it now,
and by serendipity it fits PERFECTLY inside the moulding on my studio door!
i predict it will be there for a very long time...
