the last two 'embellished' hearts i have to show you are quite simply
'junk makeovers' of an old glass heart-shaped dish and another heart-shaped tin.
and one of those includes an easy-peasy way to add glitter to ANYTHING!
a tiered tray (made by stacking white dishes from the kitchen!)
holds a pretty yellow and white assortment of hearts - with a touch of gray -
and i love how cheerful it is in my studio 'photo spot' by the faux fireplace.

when i found the tin at a local thrift shop (50 cents!), that yellow was what caught my eye!
it had a red bottom half and accents, though, so i had to make those parts over:
the bottom half of the tin was spray painted with galvanized textured paint.
to cover the red heart on the top half, i used metallic silver nail polish!
gray and white paint added fine details, yellow paint covered the pink rosettes.

the second makeover was this small glass heart-shaped dish.
my Mom has had these - plus some red ones - for over two decades.
this glass one has a HUGE chip along one edge - it's sharp, and can't really be used safely.
that's like a license to get crafty in my book!

i forgot to take a photo of the first step - but i painted a white heart in the dish.
then i painted over that with yellow - two coats.
for the third and final step, i used one of my 'secret crafting weapons'...
hair spray!
it's my secret for adding glitter to ANYTHING!
a heavy spray and a sprinkle of glitter, and it's stuck on there.
a cotton swab to swipe the edges and catch a bit of overspray finished the job.
assembling the tiered tray didn't take long,
and i love the way it shows off all of these small hearts together.
makes more of an impact that way!
along with the hearts that i made, there are a few other elements...
a yellow glass glassbaby votive cup, a yellow and white dotted mug,
and a sweet vintage galvanized heart that my daughter gave me one Christmas.

once i added the fabric hearts (that i made over a decade ago!),
the scrap paper hearts that i cut this year, the handpainted floral hearts made this year,
and hearts cut from the paint chips used in my holiday decor,
i had a full assortment of 'sweet hearts' in my display.
the funny thing?
i had ideas for over six MORE cute heart-themed projects this year!
i decided to edit my plans and stick to two posts a week instead...
better for my health and well-being. and we've all learned how important THAT is.
i've enjoyed sharing my sunny yellow 'take' on Valentine's Day decor with you this year...
incorporating a non-traditional color isn't for everyone, i know.
i just hope it inspires you to go with what YOU love - all year long.
HaPpY VaLeNtiNeS DaY!
