for the first time in the five years we've lived in this house,
our lemon tree yielded fruit!
i'm not sure if it was just that the tree is finally mature enough to bear fruit,
or if it was the strange regimen of digging coffee grounds and eggshells into the soil all year
along with the citrus tree fertilizer and Miracle Grow a few times...
but something stimulated the growth, and we got 16 lemons this winter!
you know what they say: 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade'?
well, *i* say, 'when life gives you lemons, DECORATE with them!'
and i did!
lemons lend themselves to use in a kitchen, paired with accessories related to food...
this industrial scale on our kitchen island is a perfect place for seasonal vignettes.
and i love changing it up regularly.
the white and black enamel buckets bring in farmhouse charm,
while the sunny yellow lemons add a shot of color to an otherwise neutral room.
we have some lemon themed accessories that we usually use in our little Shasta trailer
(when we GLAMP with our Lemon Drop Divas group!)
so i grabbed them to use here in the kitchen...
from dishtowels to placemats and small artwork, they work fabulously!
another enamel bucket holds more lemons along with lemon scent liquid soap,
and a few glass vases hold plants & flowers in a sunny spot by the sink and window.
simple accessories are brought to life with color -
lemons, a small flowerpot, a placemat, and some yellow napkins in the glass dome.
(i'd prefer having lemon bars in there - but i'd eat them all!!!).
elsewhere, a repeat of similar elements and accents ties the look together.
thing is, the mixer, cutting boards, cooking tools would be on the counters anyway...
adding in lemons and yellow accessories gives them a visual boost.
it only took me about twenty minutes to add all of that luscious color to the kitchen.
(and i cleaned as i went!)
giving a seasonal boost to your home isn't hard, expensive, or time-consuming...
it's a low-cost and low effort way to celebrate your home and the time you spend in it.
i hope you'll look at the lemons (or tomatoes or apples) in your produce drawer
and let them inspire you this spring!
