happy November, friends!
no, i am not done with fall yet!
there are so many beautiful things in nature in fall that inspire me...
and when i saw mushrooms of all types and materials going crazy online,
i came up with my newest Sweet Sweater creation:

 Sweet Sweater 'Shrooms!

these are a fast, fun, easy craft / diy decor project perfect for fall and Thanksgiving
that i had a lot of fun making - i hope you will, too!

continue reading for my newest no-sew sweater decor tutorial...

in truth, my muses hit me with this idea at 2 AM. those girls just do NOT sleep!
taking them from a hazy vision in my groggy head to a real thing didn't take long at all.

what are they made of?
sweaters and knit hats - thrifted, naturally.
pom poms. fringed + fuzzy yarn. rubber bands.
small ceramic bowls and flower vases.

i combined those elements in the simplest way possible,
and ended up with some really cute lil' guys. FUNGIs, to be exact. LOL!
(and i just thought of this... adding a cute kawaii face to these would be darling!)

the first 'shroom was made using a (VERY bright yellow!) knit cap:

1. starting with a BRIGHT yellow knit cap, i wrapped part of it around a small ceramic bowl.
gathering up the knit into the center of the hollow part of the bowl,
2. I secured the gather with a large rubber band.
3. then i cut the unused part of the knit cap away.
then i added a much tighter second rubber band.

4. i two foot length of fringed yarn was quadruple folded,
and wrapped around the 'nub' of knit that is gathered in the rubber band.
5. a small ceramic cup/vase sits right over the 'nub', holding the yarn in place.

hold together when you flip it over, then add little pom pom balls on top -
you could glue them, but mine actually 'grabbed' the knit texture enough to stay on.

6. then i cut the huge pom pom off of the hat, and made a fuzzy 'shroom
by simply sitting it on top of a miniature ironstone pitcher!

this 'shroom was made using a small knit hat - that i didn't want to cut.
so i found a way to fold it and make it work:

1. i started with the small cap and a small ceramic bowl.
2. fold the cap in half, toward the inside, to reduce the amount of bulk in the 'nub'.
3. sit the bowl inside the cap.
4. pull the cap tightly over the bowl, gathering up the edges in one hand as you go.
secure the gathered bunch with a large rubber band, pulled tightly.
5. the tall vase has a small opening, so i used a wood skewer to push the 'nub' into the vase -
it took some work, and i was careful to push small bits in at a time.
i didn't want to crack the vase.
then i added some fringed yarn as shown previously,
tucking it into the vase top with the skewer.

6. shows the fuzzy yarn added to the last 'shroom,
which was made using a circle of knit sweater (that was previously a pumpkin!)
i just tied that really tight around the top lip of the vase.

they were finished off with more pom poms -
flat circles cut from sweaters would work just as easily!

a note: i made these 'shrooms to be used for awhile, then dismantled...
you could most certainly glue everything together for permanence,
even substituting plastic bowls and vases if you want to use them on a wreath.
you could also cover the vases with sweaters!

i created a vignette on my faux fireplace hearth with them,
adding some fairy lights that i tucked under some 'moss' -
which is really just mossy green fringed yarn!
a few faux leaves cut from yellow craft ribbon add to the fall mood.

my sweet friend Sharon makes the most darling little acorns using needlepoint fabrics,
and sent me these happy yellow ones!
i thought they looked a bit like 'puffball' mushrooms, so i added them here.

as i was shooting content for an upcoming post,
i placed the 'shrooms and acorns up on the mantel...
in a simple pairing with white ceramics and some faux fruits,
they have a very 'farmhouse' look!
... now all i have to do is find a new 'home' for them,
because that mantel is about to be staged with holiday decor!!!
