confession: i'm really awful at sending out Christmas cards. sigh.

in 'the old days', our annual family card was a huge production:
from selecting matching outfits (and then wrangling everyone INTO them),
arranging and decorating the perfect 'set', posing four rambunctious kids
(did i say four? let's be honest... the husband was as uncooperative as the kids),
snapping the photos, and then taking the film to be developed
and praying that at least ONE shot would work.

there usually was at least one.
except the year that my pre-teen son crossed his eyes in EVERY SINGLE PHOTO.
i chose one anyway and had it made into cards - with 'Bah Humbug' as the sentiment.
and now that my kids are grown and have their own families, they don't do photo cards...
apparently they are smarter than i was!

anyway, i still love GETTING cards. and finding fun ways to display them...
this year i've come up with three ways to do that using scarves.

continue reading to see my easy solutions!
(to displaying cards - not creating the photos for them. you're on your own, friends.)sweaters,Christmas, wreaths,Christmas Decor Themes,Sweet Sweater Wreath, thrifted, winter, holiday,Christmas Decor, diy decorating,DIY,wall art,Sweet Sweater Originals,re-purposed,diy holiday decor,Christmas card holders,Christmas card displays.
this swagged scarf 'garland' is about as easy as it gets...
i used two heavy stocking hangers to anchor the scarf and light strand.
a loop of yellow yarn gathers the scarf and loops over the hook on the stocking holder,
and the lights just swag over that.

a closer look reveals that simple gold binder clips hold the cards onto the scarf...
a few also fold over the top of the scarf and don't need a clip.

this method combines two scarves and a wreath...

the white scarf wraps the pool noodle wreath,
then the yellow scarf is looped around once to form long 'tails'.

again, gold binder clips hold cards along the length of the 'tails'
and a few cards tuck into the yellow scarf loop and on top of the wreath.

i'm showing it hung on an interior door, but it could also hang on a wall.

my last idea is whimsical, and actually came about accidentally!

after completing the photos of the previous projects, i began cleaning up my studio.
(it gets SO messy when i am working and shooting photos!)
i looped the yellow scarf around the neck of my mannequin, Miss Dee, and then stopped and stared.
why NOT display cards on a mannequin?!

she's been dressed up in her vintage petticoat and yellow sweater for awhile,
with a strand of icicle lights under the chiffon skirt to make it glow.

i added a short strand of lights under the scarf, popped a Sweet Sweater Santa hat on her head,
then started clipping Christmas cards all over the scarf AND the bottom edge of the sweater.

you say you don't have a mannequin?
i once made one from a tee shirt and a tomato cage...
you'll find that post linked below! wink.

i hope these easy projects inspire you to think creatively about your card displays!

...and though it's a few weeks late to be part of the trend,
i'll offer this final thought regarding scarves:

"Jake, give Taylor her scarf back."
