this one came to me one day while i was going through my bins of spring decor.
back in 2020 i made some simple Easter eggs with varied finishes on them,
and as i saw those in the bin, i realized that their shape was very much like
the paint palettes that artists use... and a new creative idea was born!
i checked three craft stores and they only had large sized ones for a lotta' $$.
my eggs from 2020 were made from posterboard + woodgrain contact paper,
and using them again was an easy and cheap solution.
that said, someone with much more gumption than i have could easily
cut out palette shapes from thin luan plywood (birch or maple)
to get 'the real thing' for less $$.
here's a quick look at how i turned the eggs into palette shapes:
they are just posterboard with woodgrain contact paper stuck onto it,
then cut into egg shapes.
2. i traced the eggs onto plain paper, then cut out a 'palette'-shaped pattern for each one.
3. i laid the pattern onto each egg, and cut away the excess.
4. voila! wood-look paint palettes!
(they also look like PacMan to me... i must be hungry)
this time i selected bright pastel hues that fit the Easter theme.
(that's Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet, if you don't know!)
to give the illusion of depth.
(when i painted murals and furniture professionally,
my favorite part was ALWAYS the shading and highlight
to create a trompe l'oeil / 'fool the eye' sense of dimension and realism.)
the paper paint palette eggs are joined by some white ceramic vases,
white paint brushes, and yellow fake eggs and paint chip strips.
(of course i used yellow!)
a few detail shots:
how about a classroom? or a playroom?
and just imagine these in an Easter basket!
paint, paint pens, felt pens, crayons, brushes, a real palette, a tablet of paper
and of course some candy (we all need fuel for our creativity!)
as a kid, i would have gone completely crazy over an Easter basket filled with art supplies...
oh, who am i kidding? i'd STILL go crazy over one as a 60 year old woman!
so i'm going to claim it as an original new idea!)
