the yarrow bloom is really just a simple floral wire armature
(that reminds me of the wire 'head scratcher' things - anyone else see that??!!!)
topped off with some small tufts of yellow yarn as 'blooms'.

strands of thin floral wire are twisted together then bent into shape on top,
while a drop of hot glue secures the yarn tufts onto the ends of the wires.

the hardest part of this creation was getting it to sit straight in the vase to be photographed!
now, on to the zinnias...
the wood moulding elements were found at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore -
on sale for just .50 cents each, i grabbed them all!

paint washes were applied in layers, using the floral medallion's carvings as a guide.
btw, i know those are gerbera daisy props in the photo... but they are similar!
