'reduce reuse recycle' is the leitmotif of my design & decor approach...
i'd much rather use what i already have on hand here at home
than 'buy more, store more, discard more'.
by using what i have, i'm challenging my own creativity
and making my life easier by not having to wrangle more storage bins!
as i was cleaning out a cabinet in my studio recently,
i stacked miscellaneous items on my worktable and floor.
as i turned to grab something to put it back in the cabinet,
i saw that some of the elements stacked together created a 'flower' of sorts...
and deb was off on a creative adventure!
(yes, i KNOW it's actually procrastination but just go with me here, ok?!!!)
continue reading to see how many different flowers i created with 'junk'!
.
the flowers are simply layers of various items:
plastic party plates (2 sizes) . plastic lids from Costco M&M containers
Rescue Remedy metal tins . Motts applesauce jar lid . felt flower shapes (Dollar Tree)
...and one really weird item!
...and one really weird item!
here's how i assembled those elements into flowers:
large flower: large & small plastic plates + plastic lid + felt flower + Motts applesauce jar lid
medium flower: small plastic plate + plastic lid + felt flower + Rescue Remedy tin bottom
small flower: felt flower + Rescue Remedy tin top
all of those were simply glued in place with a few small drops of hot glue.
flower in a pot: small white container + base of a small 'potted plant' from Dollar Tree
+ felt flower + a yellow plastic cap from Febreze brand wall plug air fresheners!
i took the silk rose off of the base, then slipped the yellow cap onto the stem.
the center hole in the felt flower slid right over the cap to create a freestanding bloom!
i sat the tiny pot inside a white vase and topped it with yellow yarn.
NOTE: all of the elements i used here are very light weight.
if you choose to use larger or heavier elements to make flowers,
especially if you want them in your garden,
make sure you use a heavy-duty glue (Gorilla Glue) to hold them together.

here they are in process on my work table, as i figured out how to layer the elements...
below, the final versions attached to a piece of scrap wood:

once the flowers were attached, i added in some silk daffodil leaves
and wood rulers and a pencil as 'stems' to the composition.
then i had another idea...

i actually like them better this way!
they'll cheer up my studio faux mantel for the next few months...
until i come up with new ideas for using those elements!

thank you for featuring my project, Miss Donna!
Super cute and yes we need to be more into it to reuse and not just toss it out.
