how many times can Deb re-use something?!
it's okay if you ask that... i ask myself that question a lot!
i love re-using elements in my decor, making them look
as different as i can from season to season.
or, in this case, from color obsession to color obsession...
while i do still love yellow, i wanted a change of course this year
and am embracing all of the shades of green i can find in my projects.
while i was taking one project apart, another presented itself
and it's so easy i just had to share it with you.

this project once again utilizes the green yarns that you've been seeing lately.
i grab them at thrift shops, discount stores, garage sales, etc.
here's how easy this is:
remove yarns from previous moss-filled heart planter box
and shove them into the back side of a hollow metal letter
(from Hobby Lobby, $16.99 five years ago)
no glue, no cutting, nothing. just SHOVE. (artfully placed, of course)
the caveat is that my letter, D, is reversible - it looks the same forwards and upside down,
so i was able to flip this metal letter over and upside down to use the hollow area,
and it still appears as a 'D'.
other reversible letters are A, B, C, E, H, I, K, M, O, S, T, U, V, W, X, and Y.
non-reversible letters are F, G, J, L, N, P, Q, R, and Z.
if your initial (first or last) isn't reversible,
you can buy hollow letters made from cardboard or wood
and fill them with yarn, or real moss, or anything else you'd like to.
or, simply cut out a letter from cardboard and glue real moss or fake moss to it.
and of course, you can spell out words, too: books, love, home...

once completed, this letter works perfectly as a bookend.
the yarn is firmly packed in, and stays in place even without any adhesive.
it adds a nice touch to a simple display of books in green tones,
along with a few terra cotta pots...
the tiniest pot in the vignette is the new home of a very special pincushion.
it was a gift from a friend years ago, with a tiny bee handstitched onto old muslin,
and nested into a silver creamer cup.
i pulled the cushion out of the cup, nestled it into a handful of green eyelash yarn 'moss'
and tucked it into a small terra cotta pot. a few green-headed pins finish it off.
(if i had taken a better picture, you'd see the embroidered bee better -
my name 'Deborah' means 'bee' in Hebrew.)
the letter is easily hung as wall art / a wreath, as well...
two pushpins or small nails inside the center space hold it in place.
long ago, i had a large collection of 'K's in my decor...

here they are in a winter display on my mantel at the Cottage:
do you decorate with items that bear your initials?
