cozy yarn-wrapped winter wreath

yes, Deb's gone a *bit* 'loopy' lately!
this soft chenille loopy yarn is finding its way into several projects around here
because it's so FUN - and makes me think of snow. (okay, and frosting! LOL)

i've found another way to use it for a winter home decor accent,
and i hope this easy tutorial inspires you to give it a try!

continue reading for my easy tutorial...

you'll need a skein of loopy chenille yarn -
i've used a small skein of this yarn from JoAnn craft supply

(not an ad, just a link for your convenience)

plus a paper plate, scissors, and paper clips.

note: if you want to make a larger wreath, use a big 'O' cut from poster board
and two or three skeins of yarn.

the biggest tip i can give you is to
match the color of your yarn to the color of whatever base you are using -
white with white, green with green, etc.
matching the background color to the yarn will help the wreath look thicker and fuller!

1. cut the center out of a paper plate, leaving only the rim.
(note: i used a thick paper plate so that the rim would support the weight of the yarn
and stay round when hung.)
cut across the rim to open the circle.

2. use a paper clip to secure one end of your yarn to one open end of the rim.

3. begin winding the yarn around the rim,
placing each wrap right next to the last one to keep the wreath full and lush.
you will be moving away from the cut edge and around the circle as you go.
(that cut in the rim allows you to easily move the bulk of the skein as you wind,
instead of continually having to push it through the hole)

4. when you reach the end of the rim, use several paper clips
to secure it to the beginning edge.
then continue wrapping yarn over those paper clips to conceal them.

5. you can continue wrapping until you have used all of the yarn,
or you can cut the yarn after you've covered the rim completely.
simply tie the end to a loop on the back side of the wreath to secure it.

because the loopy yarn covers the entire plate rim, front and back,
this wreath is perfect for hanging on a glass door or a mirror.

mine is hung on my studio door with a metal wreath hanger -
you can also tie a luscious ribbon around the wreath to hang it from.

note: make sure you hang the wreath from the UNCUT part of the rim -
with the cut / paper-clipped part at the bottom of the wreath when hung.

i added a small white snowflake cookie cutter as a winter-y detail, above,
but i honestly like it best plain!
