here's the 'before' - just small ceramic plant pots as found at the 99 Cents Only store.
it was the pattern that caught my eye... and in just minutes, it was transformed:

yellow paint, applied in three thin 'dry-brushed' layers,
caused the dark green in the 'grooves' to stand out
and make these look about as close to pineapples as i could have hoped!
after the paint dried, i filled the pots with sand
then popped some faux succulents into them -
i chose succulents that resembled the 'crown' leaves on real pineapples.
i will likely also use these for floral arrangements
by adding water to the sand, then inserting tropical flowers and leaves.

ps: this would work to create PUMPKINS for fall, as well -
just find a planter or bowl with wide vertical ridges, and paint in tones of orange!
