the heat of summer is upon us...
and lucky for us, this 'tasty treat' won't melt as the temperature rises!
as soon as i saw a very simple item at a thrift shop,
i knew i would make it into some of my original Sweet Sweater Scoops TM
(part of my 'foofoo faux food' obsession)
reminiscent of icy lemon sherbet, just looking at these cools me down...
continue reading to see how to make them -
and you won't BELIEVE what they started out as!
the EASY tutorial:
1. unroll the cap's 'brim'.
2. fill the entire cap with polyfil stuffing. REALLY full!
3. close the open end of the cap with a rubber band, as tight as you can get it.
4. add another rubber band just down 1/3 of the cap length - not as tight as the bottom one.
(i was able to twist mine twice, which is tight enough not to move
but loose enough to make the top section nestle into the bottom one.)
that's it! there's no cutting, no glue, no sewing!
those 'scoops' can be nestled into a soda glass or vase
then adorned with some fluffy yarn 'whipped cream', a lemon candy 'cherry', and straws:
you can also find plastic ice cream 'cups' that look like waffle cones...
some faux scoops would look darling displayed in those, too!
when it comes to yellow ice cream, you basically have three choices:
banana (ick) , pineapple (yum!), or lemon (yup!)
since i have some lemon props, they work perfectly to create a fun setting here.
secret stylist tip: the 'ice' in the vintage galvie ice cream maker is clear plastic bags!
btw, i don't just style these vignettes for photos.
they stay like this in my studio for awhile!
problem is, now i'm gettin' REALLY hungry for ice cream...
